You have a game with as complex rules as this one … and the officials are going to make mistakes from time to time…actually make that regularly…

They stuff up in soccer too which is about 100 times simpler …

Wrestling is rehearsed.  The opponents rehearse before shows to get it right.

When did the Lions and Cowboys rehearse?  At some point in the week, the Bills and Pats have rehearsed for what is going to happen in the game?

Lol watch that video. Im just messing around...ya'll need to lighten up a bit..this is the internet after all!  BTW, great username!

I love the balls on Campbell. I’d take him 10 times out of 10 over McDermott

sorry but not kicking the extra point to tie the game was dumb after they line up wrong,,,   that as bad as having 12 guys on defense for a kick.

if andy reid did the same thing and the officials didn't screw up who was eligible the national media would be rubbing one out tonight in unison to the genius of Andy Reid.

Instead this will somehow by the middle of the week turn into a mistake by Campbell and the lions.

he doesn't want to talk about it all right. AKA he doesn't want to incur a Big Fat FINE. If the officials screwed the pooch on that they deserve every bit of consternation coming their way.

The ref didn't call it because they thought the lineman was ineligible.

If that lineman was indeed eligible, it would have been an illegal formation flag.  This article explains it well: https://www.shakinthesouthland.com/2012/5/10/3012755/inside-the-clemson-offense-tackle-eligible-formation#:~:text=Covered and uncovered are as,eligible to receive forward passes.

You’re not interpreting the article correctly. If Decker was covered by a WR, it would have made him an ineligible WR. He wasn’t covered though, so if he reported as the replay seems to indicate, he would have been an eligible receiver and no illegal formation would have occurred.

Ref just doing what he wants. No need to actually pay attention to detail when your responsible for enforcing rules at the highest level of a sporting event

Exactly this. Ref needs to make sure who’s reporting. He rushed it.

The Lions could've been flagged 15 yards on that 2 pt conversion and Campbell would've still gone for it.  There's a fine line between aggressive and stupid.

Oh I fully believe that line is exactly Dan Campbell wide.

I thought he was going to cry (again) or scream at that presser.

We don’t know what the Detroit Olinemen said but it’s weird he would walk up to the ref and not report.

Three lineman walk up to the ref and we don’t know what any of the three say. Lions could have avoided all of this by only having one lineman walk up to the ref. Then we would no for certain who reported even without audio.

But we’re all assuming stuff. 70 also goes to the ref. The ref you can see looks right at 70.

Why did 3 lineman go to the ref? What did 70 say to the ref?

It sounds like 70 ran over to the ref to trick the defense into thinking he was the one reporting, but Campbell had warned the ref in advance that it would be 68 actually reporting and you can see 68 is the one actually speaking to the ref.

Scott Van Pelt pushed back hard against officiating analyst John Parry when Parry blamed Taylor Decker during ESPN's post-game discussion.

that doesn't really make sense though because they announce the player who is eligible and i think if i remember correctly they said skipper before the snap.

The Schwartz brothers (former OL guys) were tweeting about this after the game. Basically said offenses do this because between the adrenaline and the crowd noise, players can’t hear/willfully don’t listen to who they’re announcing as eligible so if you’re slick about it, you can trick them. They should be able to tell based off the formation anyways but Detroit motioned Sewell over to the line late in the pre-snap to cause confusion on that front too.

Seriously so many games come down to refs or rules, how many times are we going to have these conversations without just admitting it’s a major flaw of the sport itself. These conversations are beyond predictable.

Then that sounds like a smart play and don’t they announce who reports

We don’t know exactly what Campbell said pre game but that was 3-4 hours earlier. He probably should’ve reminded him before the drive or during a timeout.
