They essentially outlawed hitting the QB and playing bump-and-run coverage on receivers, which is the main reason for the sizable statistical difference.

Hate to say it, but 84 Marino was the greatest season by a QB of all time. You gotta look at the comparisons and nobody was even coming close to that. Especially because of the fact you could mug a receiver past 5 yards. 5084 yards 48 TDS. Absolutely insane for that era and is an MVP level stat line even today.

Aikman was a pedestrian QB that played near flawlessly in the SB playoff runs. He had only one season with 20+ TDs. That same year he had 8TD passes in the playoffs. That said he probably could have had a few more passing TDs if not for Emmitt Smith 

He had 141 career INT or 3% INT rate. Despite 75 INT already in Allen's career he is still lower INT rate at 2.4%.

Josh Allen 165 passing 51 rushing 1 passing for 217 total in 92 games (2.36/game).

 

Patrick Mahomes 217 passing 12 rushing 0 passing for 229 total in 94 games (2.44/game).

He won the Vezinas and Harts but he was not looked at in the same historical light as Roy or Plante or Sawchuk at the time. 
 

Main reason was no cups. Second was being in small market Buffalo. And third was the European bias which was much stronger back then. Another reason is he came to the league when he was nearly 30 playing most of his early career in the Soviet controlled Czech Republic so his win totals weren’t high. 
 

It was only after retirement did he start being seen as the #1 or #1A goalie of all time (next to Roy).

I must have a different memory than you but many thought Hasek was the GOAT while he played.

He is now. It was only after he retired did the hockey buffs really accept him as GOAT level.

Nope. Everywhere it was widely known that Hasek was all-time incredible. On an interesting, and related, note, he stayed at a hotel I worked in back in 2000. I had heard that he was prickly and difficult, but he was anything but. Truly gracious and had a lovely family.

Are people seriously pushing for Luck to be in the hall?  I havent seen it, but if true, my God.
