I just found out that I know the guy who is leading today's event (#7). $600k for first place if he hangs on....not bad!

I've thought it would be fun to enter one of those. If you plan on gambling anyway, why not drop $1000 on one of these tournaments and take a shot? As popular is it is now, these preliminary tourneys are bigger than the main event was just a few years ago.

That assumes you like pissing away $1,000. Me, I prefer to keep my money. Don't get me wrong. I love playing hold'em. I just can't see dropping a grand on one tourney. Not yet anyway.

9 Meng La (Torrence, CA, USA) Going to final table with 71,000 chips in seat 9

KD I'm gonna assume the guy you know is Shane Schleger? He's in a tough seat with only 134,000 in chips. The big stack at the table is behind him and if Meng La doubles up he also will act behind him most of the day. David Pham is there as well as Phil Gordon.

I'm pulling for Phil Gordon or your friend.

Nuthin' much.  WSOP w/ you?

Awesome! I almost skipped this thread because I find the whole poker phenomenon stupid. That post was worth getting through all the "chip counts" post :( .

Correct. Apparently he took a couple of beats and fell back. My friend who works with him (well, he doesn't really work any more except for playing poker) almost flew out to Vegas to watch the final table but he told her not to since he's short stacked now and could be out early. Still, nice to clear a minimum of $50k. That'll more than pay for his entry into the rest of the tournaments and his expenses for the month.

He made 132,000 dollars. Not bad for 3 days work.

Pham's button. Schleger opens for $36,000, Gracz calls from the big blind. The flop comes 8h 7c 3s 7d. Both players check. The turn is the 7d. Gracz checks, and Schleger moves all in. Gracz thinks for a while, and calls. Schleger shows Ks Js, Gracz shows Ad 10h. Gracz makes the call with ace high, and he's correct! Schleger needs a king or jack on the river. The 10c hits, and Schleger is eliminated in 5th, earning $132,110.

Eric Seidel won his 7th bracelet last night. The final three at that table in event number 9 were Seidel, Cindy Violette, and Perry Friedman, all well respected pros with Seidel being the most recognized.
