\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 I saw this article online last week and really didn't think much about it: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/11/28/amazon-missed-mail-rural-towns/ However, on Monday I drove to a work meeting about 60 miles away, and I brought along some Christmas presents to mail out on the way back. I stopped by one of small town post offices, and the lady who was behind the counter was also the postmaster. And behind her were about 100 Amazon packages on the shelves. I made some small talk with her and mentioned the article. And she said that it was true, that the Post Office has a contract with Amazon that REQUIRES that their packages get delivered before the other mail. She said that each day she has to send out 2-3 drivers first thing in the morning to deliver the Amazon packages for 1-2 hours, then they come back and deliver as much regular mail as they can before they have to be back by 4:00 p.m. She said that, because of this, some people don't get their mail delivered on that day/ 2
