NewEra Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 The current Gabe thread has me wondering what everyone else thinks. So, what do you guys think? @Mr. WEO I’m interested in your thoughts. You’re very animated in the other thread but I can’t tell where you really stand. Go on record. If there is another voting option that would better suit your feelings, say the word and I’ll add it. I went with option 2- I genuinely like Gabe and I think he has very good value as a WR4 and is an ok 3rd WR option (I don’t want him in the slot). I feel he is lacking in speed/athleticism, route running/ separation, rac and contested catches. He’s capable but just too inconsistent due to all of the above. I appreciate his work ethic and I think his parents did a wonderful job raising him to be a great humans. 1 1 1 Quote
H2o Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I say no. I'm over the Gabe Davis experiment. He's not terrible, but I'm not paying a guy $3M-$5M to be the 4th WR. Let someone else make that mistake, just like Chicago with paying Edmunds. 3 4 1 Quote
TheBrownBear Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I voted to let him walk, because I'd like to see an increased role for Shakir, who I see as a more versatile player with a higher upside. Having said that, I'd have no problem retaining him as a WR4 on a team friendly deal. 1 1 1 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I picked the 3rd option for the contract value. A middle to low end WR2/3 type guy is starting to see in the 11M/yr range (see Lazard). That's where I see Gabe ultimately landing. I would take him back at a slightly lower value. The $8-9M range and I would be ok with that for all the different roles he can play on offense. However, I do think if he hits open market his rate will sky rocket and someone will make the mistake of overpaying in the $12-$15M range. That's too much for me. 1 Quote
Mikie2times Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I voted no, because while I wish he could be a 4 to 5 with us, he never will be. We will give him starter reps. Defer the real problem another year. I don't want him on the roster because it forces us to invest in viable options at the position. 1 Quote
Mark Vader Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I would only give Davis a one year prove-it contract. 1 1 Quote
DJB Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 No simply because he will outprice himself. Oh and he has bricks for hands 1 Quote
Aussie Joe Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I’m ready to move on… In any event ..someone will pay him … and he needs to take that deal IMO… could be a one time thing and he might be playing for Shaq Lawson money in a couple of years … 1 Quote
balln Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I voted 2. But I’m changing to letting him walk. He’ll be more valuable as a comp pick. Nothing wrong with it. He had immediate production as a rookie. Had an epic performance in playoffs. Good production for a 4th rd pick. He’s nothing special. And he’s only going downhill athletically at this point 6 1 Quote
NoSaint Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 He has a place in the league, but that place isn’t Buffalo. In this window we need someone better in the role and won’t get it while he’s taking 90% of the snaps. It’s basically impossible to consider him a 4 here at this point. Quote
strive_for_five_guy Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 What did they pay Harty, $6M/year? If they could sign him for under $10M, they’ll consider that a steal relative to a guy like Harty. But I’d be shocked if someone in the market doesn’t pay him over $10M/year, and value his potential over us. 1 2 Quote
LABILLBACKER Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I voted buh bye...too many issues of drops, wrong routes and his mediocre tree in general. Someone will be dumb enough to over pay him like Edmunds. Draft Odunze and expand the roles of Shakir, Shorter and Kincaid. Quote
boyst Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 (edited) Yes. Between $6.5-8mm I don't think would be that bad. Would prefer $5.5-6mm. I think he can command more than that and prior to this season would have taken less to stay knowing he fits in here. This year he seems off page for the rest of the team. He will end up another Bobby Trees type dude. Woods 203/2451 - 57 games Davis 157/2579 - 60 games Edited December 14, 2023 by boyst Quote
finn Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Having Davis on the team is like having the second-best hand in poker: good enough to lose with. 2 1 1 Quote
dma0034 Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I don't want him back. I'm sure his elite run blocking will be missed but the Bills need to draft a WR that can get some level of seperation in the 1st round next year Quote
blacklabel Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 (edited) Capable of big games just inconsistent. Seems to get a lot of praise as a blocker and someone doing the little, unnoticed things on offense, team player and a captain so there are qualities there the staff certainly admire. But is he just too inconsistent? Has a big game then disappears for a bit. Couple picks this year have bounced off his hands, he's had some drops. It's not like he's a liability week in and week out, just feels like his goofs come at bad times. Honestly, I suspect some other team with the cap space and a need at receiver will overpay him a bit and he'll be elsewhere for 2024. I'd re-sign him at a fair value which, I think Beane may offer, but I think another team will see something there and think they can get him to that next level. Will he? I dunno. YoloinOhio Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 He should negotiate in candy at this point like his bro lil dirty 2 1 Quote
CNYfan Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I picked option 3. I love Gabe, but I can't see real big dollars over there. God speed, Gabriel Quote
