Dorsey wasn't a scapegoat, he just wasnt that good at his job. He had good enough players to help him hide it, but the manner in which he called games was baffling. 2 1 Quote

hondo in seattle Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 (edited) Josh just said that there's a "We've got a lot of trust in this locker room and confidence in each other... We're going to have to believe it, to do it. And this is a team that believes it..." [We have a] "very, very good feel in this locker room right now." Seems different than Dunne's characterization. This brand of coaching was understandable at first. The Rex Ryan stories are legendary for all the wrong reasons. As one goes, coaches hollered for a player to enter a game on the sideline… only there was one problem. The player was up in a suite because the coaches forgot to tell him to dress. “The f--ker had to run down and put his ***** on and go play,” said one ex-Bill, dying in laughter. “Rex was retired on the job. Those guys were drinking beer by 4 p.m. every day during training camp and just partying. It was a ***** show.” The moment that broke that Bills team was when Rex and a batch of his assistants rented a bus to attend a World Series game in Cleveland three hours away during a game week. This isn’t a culture of fear to Mike Zimmer proportions. Players actually do have complimentary things to say about McDermott and even the coaches who felt his wrath weren’t necessarily afraid of him. Rather, it’s a dreary work environment. This is a good reminder that even though the Bills have a coaching problem at the moment, they also have a very serious ownership problem that is flying under the radar. That’s insane. 1 Quote

Regardless of the article McDermott has five weeks to set this thing straight. If the Bills miss the playoffs its time for him to go. As much as I appreciate what he's done for the organization its important for the Pegula's not to drag their feet on this. The only thing the article does is make the move easier to digest. That said, I am hoping Sean gets the team through this and into the playoffs. He's earned that much. It's not over but it feels like right after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. 1 Quote

There is some fairness to the relocation aspect of the Bills. But I am also not sure it’s a forever get out of jail free card. Also he is the worst owner in NHL history. So it’s difficult to say “Yay Terry. King of the sports” because the Bills exist when just down route 5 he’s absolutely ruined the NHL team. EDIT: I think Pegula is accutely aware of this. And part of the reason McD has been listed as safe unless the wheels fall off is because he could run out of goodwill in this town. Edited December 8, 2023 by Mango 1 Quote

Josh did josh things and would have won that game had it not been for the refs refusing to call PI. Remember that game. Stephs jersey being stretched Galway across the field and like 4 refs were looking right at it? I am one to hope they play for each other on this team right now because they win despite McD and often lose because of him. From this part of the article Quote But in this case, the party receiving McDermott’s blame refused to bend over and accept its spanking. Run more? Win at the line of scrimmage? Players on offense vividly remember offensive coordinator Brian Daboll essentially saying, “!@#$ that!” at halftime. Daboll unleashed Josh Allen in all his glory. As a passer. As a runner. The Bills nearly came back to stun Tom Brady’s Bucs in overtime. One player remembers Daboll calling the same RPO play constantly. “We came out and we started !@#$ kicking their ass,” he said. “Letting Josh be Josh.” That half on, Allen became the most dominating player in the sport. He threw for 1,828 yards, rushed for 475 and scored 22 touchdowns with only five picks the final seven games. The Bills obliterated the Patriots — twice — including a playoff epic for the ages. A scene inconceivable through the drought years. Fans bought t-shirts at Store716 that read “Death of a Patriot” by Josh Allen with the full details of all seven scoring drives in the Wild Card bloodbath. Every NFL team’s dream is to catch fire at the absolute perfect time. Nothing was stopping this offense. “Sean said some things,” one offensive player recalled, “and we’re like, ‘Man, !@#$ that. We’re going to make this happen on the offensive side of the ball.’ And it happened. Sean is an understanding person for the most part. When everybody pushes back, he understands. We said, ‘!@#$ this. This is what we do. This is what we’re good at. Let Josh throw this !@#$ ball. Let him run the ball. Let’s do this.’ And it worked.” All the way through the first 59 minutes and 47 seconds of the AFC divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs, anyways. 1 Quote

Similar to Araiza, similar to Von, similar to this. Every org knows everything. There’s reports of NFL teams have plants in college towns during the year to get the scoop on draft picks. The league and every team in the league individually employ/contract former federal agents to snuff out these off field issues quietly. It’s a business of “what can I get away with”. It’s not shocking. It is what it is. But I would be shocked if this was new for the org. Having to deal with it in public is why McD looks scared. Quote
