Not that Im defending McD. But Staley is truly horrible. My biggest fear is that Staley gets fired, McD gets to stay one more year, and he brings Staley in as DC. Chicken Boo Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 No love for the Dec. 2021 game vs the Patriots? They threw the ball 3 times and still won. 1 Quote
mjt328 Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 "13 Seconds" is king of the mountain for Sean McDermott. It ranks with "Wide Right" and the "Music City Miracle" as the worst losses in Bills history. Last year's Minnesota loss was strangely one of the lowest moments I've felt as a Bills fan. Justin Jefferson with the greatest catch ever on 4th Down. The fumbled snap in the end zone. Patrick Peterson's interception. Despite our great record at the time, that was the moment my expectations for the season came crashing and I knew this team wasn't going to win the Super Bowl. Just felt like this team was cursed. 12 Man Field Goal is probably the most incompetent loss during McDermott's coaching tenure. Unbelievable he could let that happen in such a vital game. The Houston playoff game, Philly/Jalen Hurts OT, Bucs/Tom Brady OT (along with 13 seconds) are the greatest examples of where McDermott falls short as a Defensive coach in the biggest clutch moments. The 2020 Chiefs Championship loss and 2022 Bengals Divisional loss are the best examples where his defense simply doesn't show up in the biggest games. It's absolutely crazy that I've named EIGHT games from the past 5 seasons. And I still haven't gotten to the Hail Murray. The Wind Game against the Patriots. Josh Allen slipping Monday night against the Titans. The Josh Allen vs. Josh Allen bowl. Aaron Rodgers Achilles game. 1 3 1 Quote

SCBills Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 The fact we can have such a lengthy discussion over the Mount Rushmore of brutal losses under a Head Coach that has never been to a Super Bowl is hilarious and completely unserious if we miss the playoffs.. continue the regression under him.. and run it back next season. 1 Quote
TheBrownBear Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 (edited) 1. 13 Seconds 2. Bengals playoff 3. 12 Men 4. Pats 2023 There are some other very memorable ones (Philly '23, Vikes '22, Jets '23, Jags '21, Houston playoff, Pats wind game, etc.), but many of those are less defined by Sean's coaching than by either near miracles (Vikes/Philly), acts of God (wind game) or poor play by Josh/offense (Jets/Jags). The four I have on my list I hang directly on Sean for either ridiculous coaching blunders (13 seconds/12 men), not having his team ready to play in either a big game (Bengals) or against an inferior opponent (Pats/Broncs) or complete collapse of his defense at the end of a game (13 secs, 12 men and Pats). This week's game would be no. 5 on my list. Edited November 28, 2023 by TheBrownBear Quote

The only games where I honestly thought the other team just beat us were the Jags, Bengals and Pats games. We were clearly the worse team on those days. We largely dominated the other losses if not for idiotic turnovers and late game coaching blunders. We should be sitting at 9-3 right now and the metrics agree. Quote

Did anybody know who McDermott was before he was hired here? or Sirianni, or McDaniels, or Ryans, or Campbell, or Harbaugh before he became coach or Pederson before he bacame coach, or Tomlin before he became coach....... etc This mindset that nobody better than McDermott can be found is comical, lazy, scared of failure thinking actually, kind of how McDermott coaches. The most difficult piece to the puzzle is already in place, QB 1, so attracting top coaching talent shouldn't be an issue as it was in the past. 1 Quote

But realistically does anyone believe its going to happen? I think Josh is in the same boat as Connor McDavid with the Edmonton Oilers. Both arguably the best individual talent in the league stuck on a team that underachieves in other areas of the game such as defense and coaching. While I've stuck with McDermott on its become too obvious after the Philly game that a change is needed. I'm not sure I can handle another season full of these last minute disasters. Quote

Ray Stonada Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 I honestly feel like I am numb to terrible losses because of the last 4 years. Losses that would drive a Chiefs or a Giants fan to jump out the nearest window make us Bills fans yawn and say, "Yeah. Happens." Quote

dma0034 Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Losses under McDermott? 1. 13 Seconds 2. 12 Men on the Field 3. Vikings Game 4. Jets season opener Losses because of McDermott? 1. 13 Seconds 2. 12 Men on the Field 3. Bengals playoff 4. Bills/Chiefs AFC Championship Game I think the Bills lost those games because of McDermott (Bengals are debatable) Quote

When they start looking at all the close head scratching losses, I think teams would shy away. It's disgraceful, how often the offense has pulled themselves off the mat to tie or take a lead late, only for the D to cave at the end or in OT. The Bills championship window is maybe in the final realistic season and McD has pissed it away. Even with D injuries they should have closed out some of these games...TWICE in Philly they blew it. He's a mediocre defensive mind who fall back on his safe blanket zone. But once the 2nd half begins, opposing teams (coaches) easily know what to attack. His decision making abilities are terrible. 1 Quote

The Mount Rushmore for McDermott? This does not mean the loss is blamed on him - just the loss was under his term. My submission: 1. 13 seconds 2. Kneel down 3. Peterman's 5 picks 4. Urban Meyers Jaguars Sadly this team has dozens of worthy candidates. Here's what I came up with: 1) Wide Right 2) 13 Seconds 3) Patriots "Just Give It To Em" game 4) 2004 losing to Steelers 3rd stringers and missing playoffs Quote
