We need a coach with a pair of cojones. But who’s available? Pederson would’ve been great but he’s not available.

Rex Ryan probably would’ve been a good fit for this team but he’s no longer an option. Can’t go back to that well.

how about keeping Joe Brady as OC and hiring Jim Schwartz?

Brady & Schwartz would be a sweet combo.

You need minimum a 13 point lead at the start of the 4th quarter to have a shot at winning close with how McD calls a defense late.

I agree.  McDermott is incapable of winning close games against good opponents.  He requires that differential because he knows his 4th quarter defense is ass.

That “refuse to lose” mentality that some teams have….well it ain’t with the Buffalo Bills i can tell you that.  It’s a darn shame.

The problem is we only have one of those guys with the physical/technical talent active on defense right now (Douglass), and McD’s end of game schemes take him out of the play. No pre ACL all-pro Tre making a timely 4th quarter pick, no Milano to force a turnover or make a TFL, no DQ to collapse a double team for interior pressure, and Poyer, Hyde, and Von ain’t what they used to be physically. This team really doesn’t have enough defensive closers to ice a 2 minute drive, especially when McD wants to go prevent or cover 0.

….. then there’s the unreliable special teams with inconsistent coverage and missed kicks….. part of that likely stems from the injuries and guys getting called up into duty, but that’s no excuse for Bass, Martin, etc. Things like the 12 men issues are a coaching problem, and it’s on McD to fix that. IMO his focus on the duel HC/DC roll has significantly influence the precision and execution of both the offense and particularly special teams.

Have we really though?  Pretty sure our record in "close games" would be the worst in NFL among "top tier" teams over the past 3 years, if anyone were to check.

Put it this way, just heard the stat on WGR:

In the past THREE years, the Bills have only lost ONE game in regular season by more than 1 score (Colts game 2 years ago)

That has to be the best in the entire NFL over that span.

And yet...   we lost 15 games and counting during that time!!!   That means 14 of 15 games were lost by 7 or less.  Absolutely Incredible.

I think we also lead the NFL in "blowout" wins over that span (or games that we win by over 7 points).  So what does that tell you?  It tells you that the Bills only know how to win one-sided games, for the most part.

Yeah. Exactly right. Also, most of the games McD has won close were games where we had pretty large leads then blew those leads and held on for a close victory. Basically, he blows large leads in most games. Lots of big point swings due to bad coaching.
