Mr. WEO Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 (edited) So coaches don't really say "we have to get off the field on D", and "we just gotta stop hurting ourselves with dumb penalties"?? Another massive non-story involving what is always the dumbest and least useful part of any football broadcast--the sideline interview of the losing team at the half. why are people worked up over this? At least this reporter is being honest: "coach wouldn't talk so I filled in his dumb bromides and cliches for my spot" good for her... Edited November 17, 2023 by Mr. WEO 4 Quote

Me: Write a fictitious halftime interview between a reporter and Sean McDermott. ChatGPT: Halftime Interview - Buffalo Bills vs. Archrivals Reporter: "Coach McDermott, it's been an intense first half. What are your thoughts on the team's performance so far?" Sean McDermott: "First of all, credit to our guys for their effort out there. It's a tough battle, as we expected with our archrivals. We've had some positive moments, but there are areas where we need to tighten up. It's a tight game, and we'll make the necessary adjustments to come out stronger in the second half." Reporter: "The running game seems to be struggling a bit. What adjustments do you plan to make to get it going?" Sean McDermott: "Yeah, the ground game hasn't found its rhythm yet. We'll take a look at the blocking schemes and see where we can create some lanes for our backs. It's important for us to establish the run and keep the defense honest. We'll make some tweaks and look to open up the playbook a bit more in the second half." Reporter: "Defensively, there were a couple of big plays given up. How do you plan to address that?" Sean McDermott: "Defensively, we pride ourselves on limiting big plays, so that's something we'll definitely address. It's about communication and making sure everyone is on the same page. We'll make some adjustments in our coverages and put our guys in better positions to succeed. We trust our defense, and I'm confident they'll respond in the second half." Reporter: "Any specific message for the team in the locker room?" Sean McDermott: "Absolutely. I just told the guys to stay focused and disciplined. We're in a tight game against a tough opponent, but we're built for this. It's about executing our game plan, playing with intensity, and making plays when the opportunities present themselves. We're a resilient group, and I have confidence that we'll come out in the second half ready to fight." Reporter: "Thanks, Coach. Good luck in the second half." Sean McDermott: "Thank you. It's going to be a battle, and we're looking forward to it." And to think some people are worried about AI taking over… Quote

SMH, it's everything that is wrong with the media It’s sideline reporting mainly on the most boring humans on earth, coaches. It’s not coverage on a war. And it was said on a podcast where they have a bet to do a porn with each other if their teams (Chicago and Washington) tied. It’s not that serious. 1 Quote
Bob Jones Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 What she "made up" was probably exactly what they would have said anyway. She shouldn't have done it, but those sideline interviews are worthless, and VERY predictable as to what they will say. The *only* time they might be worthwhile is when let's say a player gets injured in the first half, and then at halftime the coach has some inside info re the condition of said injured player. But in my decades of watching pro/college football, they very rarely have that info either, usually, it's just "the docs are looking at him, and we'll have more info later tonight." 1 Quote

Wasn’t that her in the last year or so? Does she just crave attention? She had to know saying she just made stuff up was going to cause a stir. 1 Quote

Whenever all of the dust settles the fact of the matter, we were winning when Josh Allen walked off the field It’s a hard loss we absolutely should’ve won that game Quote
jletha Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Sideline reporting is so stupid for these interviews. Its one thing to be boots-on-the-ground for injury updates. But I really dont understand why networks think viewers want coaching insights during the game. Also shes not being a "Big J Journalist" in this scenario. She just spouting canned answers for the camera, who cares if she made 1 up 15 years ago. Quote
Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Easier than asking "Coach Bullough, what do you plan on doing next?", and the jamoke proceeds to break wind. Quote
Rc2catch Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 This is being made into such a huge deal. It’s all coach speak. She obviously filled in the blanks quite well or I would expect a coach would have complained they never said that stuff. it’s all obvious, be better on 3rd downs, stop turning the ball over.. There’s no actual information in those “interviews” if I had to guess I would say coaches appreciate avoiding that interview and her filling in obvious blanks so they don’t have to waste their time with pointless statements Quote

I don’t care personally, it’s just filler in the middle of the game. But saying that kind of puts sideline reporters jobs in jeopardy. If people know it’s a farce, from a sideline reporter, it makes the rest of them vulnerable. If I was a sideline reporter, I’d be pissed. Erodes trust in the profession Quote
