My point still stands. Ben Roethlisberger's dad was a QB at Georgia Tech. Phillip Rivers' dad was a HS football coach. As NFL football has gotten increasingly complicated, coaching in the formative years has become more important. Some guys like Brady and Brees are able to overcome this, but having a dad who knows the game inside and out is a HUGE advantage. Also, where you went to HS matters. Brady, I think, is one of the only ones to overcome all these early disadvantages.

I myself wanted keep Brady out of it not just because it ruins the topic with people getting side tracked, but because as you pointed out he is an outlier compared to 99% of the QBs.

Brady also benefitted from Belichick one of the greatest defensive minds to teach him what to look for to tell him what the defense was doing, toss in they had Ernie Adams whom I feel memorize signals or formations and told BB plays that come from them. who he they told Brady about.

It has played out time and time again. The greatest power of a QB is an ability to read a defense and get the ball out quickly, accurately, and consistently. While I feel Josh has unique skills and he is certainly much better than average, he does not do what I just said very well. Which will always be what prevents him from being in the class some people want to place him.

There are a lot of things that factor into being an elite QB. One of which (and maybe the most important) is the COMMITMENT to being elite.

I panned people last off season for making too much of Josh's schedule after the season ended. Be it making 100 commercials, vacations, celebrity golf tournaments, public appearances with the celebrity new girlfriend...we sure saw a LOT of Josh. You know what I don't remember seeing? The yearly photos and videos of him working with Jordan Palmer. Any workouts being hosted by our QB with the receivers. You know, football stuff. I'm starting to feel there's something to all that.

Flip the script, and look at Burrow. Never left town after the Bengals playoff loss. Didn't go on vacation, as a matter of fact was in the facility the next day. Worked all off season. Doesn't spend his time in front of cameras selling Pepsi. And as a young QB, already in one Super Bowl and baby faced looks...you KNOW companies would kill to have him as a spokesperson.

Now I don't begrudge Allen for any of his choices. It's his life, you only get one and you should do what you want. But don't be shocked when those that put in the work supersede you. They earned it.

Burrow is likely a one-off.  He is 26 years old, goes to bed at 8pm, never eats sugar or processed foods, no alcohol.  He doesn't meet with family or friends the night before or day of a game.  He has done some marketing but turns a lot down.

Many think Burrow is one of the best processors and he is very accurate as he lives for reps, like thousands.  That said Burrow will never have Allen's natural ability, his arm, running, raw power are elite.  Josh obviously needs to clean up some pre-snap and recognition issues but he has all the potential in the world.

As always Zac Taylor went conservative in the 2nd half and the Bills D impressively stood up, Bengals fans were very aware that Allen has the tools to have come back regardless of the time on the clock.

I have 2 teenagers. A boy and a girl. The boy is no exaggerating a genius. The girl is closer to typical for the age. He doesn't crack a book at night. Doesn't study. Still gets almost straight As.

She is up in her room every night just killing it. Studies 4-6 hours a night. Takes on extra assignments. She is a B student.

Guess which effort I am prouder of?

Point being, imagine with all his physical gifts and one of a kind ability if Allen put in the work of a Burrow. Imagine if Allen applied himself like that what we would see. Imagine the results bon the field. That's the frustrating part for me. He's great...but he could be so much more.

1) Need ability to make all the throws, needn’t be the strongest or fastest arm

2) can throw with touch and anticipation (throw guys open) over different level of defense

3) poise and mobility in pocket

4) pre and post snap processing

5) exceptional vision and spatial awareness

6) natural leadership and confidence to correct and guide team around you on and off the field

7) great study habits and work ethic

8- lifestyle commitment to greatness.
9) a burning competitive desire to win

10) NEVER a victim of coaching or supporting cast.
11) a winner

Having an OC that doesn't have their head up their own a$$!!

When the play calling is being labeled as sh-t, this makes more sense. A lot of it in there…

Thete are basic physical requirements for arm strength and accuracy, but the ability to see a lot and make quick decisions is crucial. Unfortunately, that's Josh's weakness. His athleticism is off the charts though.

I think at this level, the best QBs are absorbed in football.

The margins are so thin.

The constant study of the playbook, dedication to their fitness and nutrition, proper rest.

They have a thirst to get better, working with Jordan Palmer in the offseason, picking out a piece of their game that they want to improve and making it a priority, holding throwing camps with the WRs in the offseason.

The long and short of it you have to love the day to day grind, establishing a routine.
