Since 1933, the Steelers became the 34th team to be outgained in each of their first 8 games of the season.

They are the first team in NFL history to have a winning record when that happens.

This year, they are the only team that has been outgained in every game they have played and they have the 2nd worst net yardage total in the NFL at -790. Only the Broncos at -830 are worse (and 363 of those came in one game against the Dolphins).

How this team is 5-3 is a miracle...pretty much last years version of the Giants winning by smoke and mirrors every week.

The clock is going to strike midnight for Cinderella pretty soon I think, cannot keep winning in that manner, it's unsustainable over an entire year.

No force in heaven or earth can make Mike Tomlin finish under .500

What if Goodell decides to use them for an experiment?

Their season is like our Giants game.

I have a couple of Steeler fan neighbor friends, and it has been painful for them. But! They're ahead of the Bills in playoff standings.

Because Steelers fans (like PSU) are delusional about their teams. They start a backup qb. They won with Duck and mason. He kept a Big Rape, ABCTE, and Leveon in line.

I think Pittsburgh is a beautiful city but it’s not a hotbed for FAs. they are complete frauds but Tomlin is a very good coach. With all the hate he gets from that fanbase, I wish he would go have success with another team and the Steelers be completely garbage with him.

side note, this sounds like McDermott though the Bills have a superstar qb.

The Vikings had that magic last year and started this year by losing all the close games it would have won last year.  That was before the Jefferson and Cousins injuries.

To some extent winning in the NFL or NHL is a probability system.  Imagine throwing dice. The good teams win with most of the dice combinations, but there are almost always one or a few combinations where the other team wins.  The goal of an organization is to have as many dice combinations as possible in their favor.

Consistently winning in the NFL or NHL when the dice are against you is like winning at slot machines in Las Vegas.  You might get lucky once but if you keep playing you'll lose.  The "house" is the Eagles, and the "player" is the Panthers.

I wonder what Tomlin could do with the Bills roster.

He'd certainly figure out a way to trip up the opponents.

Tomlin just wins baby, trends, stats be , well you know! Only 3 coaches for a reason. Guess who also has led a team to 5-3?  Every week on here , it’s only the W that matters in a week to week league.  Qualify a W here at your own risk , so seems hypocritical to degrade a steeler W.   Just saying. Can’t have it both ways,,,,can we?    Asking for a friend!

Mentioned before the year, Watt/Highsmith is arguably best pass rushing duo in NFL.  But Pickett would hold them back.

It's not crazy to think they get to 10 wins.  Their defense creates havoc, and keeps them within 1 score in most contests.

The offense has 2 very good playmakers in Pickens and Johnson, even with Pat injured.  And as bad as Pickett/Canada combo is, they just need to limit turnovers and connect on 1-2 big plays to guys mentioned above.

It's not sustainable against tough opponents, but their schedule is weak this year.

It will come down to Steelers/Browns/Afceast team for the 6th/7th wild card spots IMO

I’m curious the average drive length of scoring drives being facilitated by their defense / special teams creating turnovers or returns.

Their average drive start is among the worst in the league, actually — 25th: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/pit/2023.htm.

Their defense is 30th in yards given up too.

What explains pretty much everything is the fact that the Steelers offense have given up the fifth fewest turnovers and the Steelers defense has forced the second most.
