I don't think he is an upgrade on our starters. Admittedly haven't seen a lot of Green Bay this season, but have seen a lot of Douglas since he came out of that good 2017 draft class. The Eagles ended up cutting him, 3 years after spending a 3rd on him because teams CONSTANTLY targeted him then he bounced around practice squads before sticking in Green Bay. No team in the NFL has misevaluated DBs as consistently as Green Bay in the past decade.

For a 3rd with a 5th coming back I really do not like this. I think he is a better fit in our scheme than Elam but he is a lateral move from Jackson and Benford for me.

Maybe he has suddenly improved a ton and will prove me wrong but man I hate this deal.

I might be wrong but my guess is Douglas would have been playing for Schwartz in Philly. Barry who is currently with the Packers was LB's coach of Tampa for almost a decade.  I'm guessing it's a tale of two defenses.  Douglas probably fits much better in a zone defense than a man defense and Schwartz plays man and (I'm guessing) Barry, coming from Tampa and Derrick Brooks era, plays zone.

I’ll trust the fans that have no idea who he is saying he can’t cover anyone over this 😂. Douglas is probably better than white straight up post white’s acl injury

That’s what I said to my dad. 100%

A 3rd?!? Yeesh!

It's amusing how you disappear after the Bills wins.  Then come back with your nonsense after the positivity clears.

There will be a point next year where Douglas and White are our two starting CBs.

At what point in 2024 do you anticipate Tre White being ready to START games at CB? You do remember how long it took him to return from an ACL, right?

I guess he can go to Rodgers' surgeon for the alternative procedure and get back sooner to be an absolute HUSK of his former athleticism. Still don't think that gets him ahead of Benford before 2025, if at all. Achilles injuries rob athletes of explosion.

Maybe Tre eventually kicks back to safety (if he's even on the roster next season)? (Usually hate such suggestions, but he has the brain and flexible skillset for it.)

He won’t respond but it was hilariously obvious.

And technically it’s Douglas and a fifth for a third. That fifth should tip the scales for some. I don’t know where else we’d find a legit vet starter for less. He’s only 28 so even Madden dummies must know that starter + being under 30 is going to cost a bit. Had we shopped around a 6th for some 32 year old vet we all know the complaints would be about the age.

Packers Twitter seems pretty split but the ones that are upset that he’s leaving are really upset and provide more reasoning. And pretty much all of them seem to say that “he’s a dog, toughest guy on the team, etc.” Hard to dislike this, laughable to dismiss it as nothing.

Yes.  And in the last few hours I have been researching him.  That's usually how it works.

Yes for aliens or absolute dummies that have spent 20 minutes on the NFL, this is accurate.

Meant the stats, not the grade.

3rd most interceptions in the NFL over the past 3 seasons with 10?

"Douglas has 10 interceptions over the last three seasons and has allowed a 59.8% completion percentage as the nearest defender, per Next Gen Stats. His experience and success in zone coverage will help. Eight of those interceptions came in zone and he allowed 57% of passes to be completed in zone coverage as the nearest defender."

Seems pretty solid to me.

I’m just taking the positive side of that coin. Maybe next December we see both on the field.

Wouldn't that be something. Cheers to that image of a healthy Tre, Rasul, Christian, and Taron locking it DOWN.

I don't think White makes it back as a CB before 2025 tbh. If at all. A move to safety is intriguing, and would be welcome given our impending/expected losses at that position (can't see Poyer or Hyde still in Buffalo after 2023/2024). (Wow, Micah Hyde was SUCH a good signing. Such a steady cornerstone, that we often discount what an impact athlete he's been, too.)

If White isn’t cut.

Cold truth is that I think it’s likely we have seen his last snap as a Bill.

It should be treated like campaigning but it won't.

Douglas definitely was awful with Philly........but then he did suddenly improve.........when he went to GB.

Like De'Vondre Campbell did too.   Both were utter trash until they went to GB and then they got very good overnight.    If the Bills had gotten Campbell too it would have gotten the same kind of initial responses but he has been like an 80 PFF grade LB overall since he joined GB.

McBeane need to be able to find these kind of guys who just needed a change of scenery and some seasoning.   Poyer was the last one of those they found and that was technically one of Whaley's(along with Lorax, Tyrod, Zach Brown etc.. that was sorta' Doug's thing).

Maybe Elam is that guy for them and just needs some time and guidance like Rasul did.   And maybe that's part of the reason they wanted a guy like Rasul Douglas.........to put a guy on the team that has been thru what Elam is going thru now and got to the other side and became a very good.

Another aspect is that RD played under Holcomb in Carolina, so he likely knows that scheme and terminology already since the DC job went from McD to Eric Washington to Holcomb. The guy is familiar with everything and should get up to speed quickly having previous experience with this defense.

Very good CB. Just for reference, his overall rating in Madden 24 is 85. Fans in Green Bay and Milwaukee are hating this trade, so that should tell you something. If he can give us a couple healthy years, along with the Fournette signing, that's a solid move by Beane. I'm sorry we didn't shore up LB, but we're still set up well for the future with Milano, Bernard and Williams who I think has high upside.

The Packers secondary was legit good the last few seasons.  I haven’t followed them much this year because their team is boring and awful.

But Douglas has to be a big reason why they’ve been very good.

Last year v the Bills I thought in the 2nd half we didn’t move the ball well at all thru the air against them and Josh had 2 picks.

For the D in order of preference I wanted a CB; saw that as the biggest need.  We have depth there again.

Now is the pass rush going to be good?  Can we cover big TEs?  I have no idea but currently I’m very down on our front 6.  It’s Bernard Groot and Ed and that’s it.  Ed disappears vs good to great Guards.  And I think Groot is hurt.  I don’t understand how they’re using AJE.  I think it’s the same with him - vs very good to great tackles he’s invisible.

The Bengals might only score 59 now with this move.
