Israel is now Goliath and The Palestinians world David. People don't like to see the little guy beat down by the big guy. Israel paid them back...

This is an awfully simplistic view and doesn't seem to reflect the history of the region.

Who was David and who was Goliath on October 7th?

I think Secretary of State Blinken was dead on with this quote:

Quote

“It is striking and in some ways shocking that the brutality of the slaughter has receded so quickly in the memories of so many,” Blinken said.

I think you may be one of the ones he's talking about.

David continues to be the Palestinians the last 20 years especially.

AND on Oct. 7th.

Goliath has always been Israel w/United States support.

You don't go on happily enjoying life living near an open air prison for 16 years. AND I hope if any of us did we would fight our government on it!

This didn't happen in a vacuum.  It's like living in New Orleans, 8 feet below sea level, and wondering why you got water seeping into your yard and where did it come from.

Hell of a plan they had going in Israel all these last 20 years. Tuck 5.5 million people away behind a wall. Wonder where our wall ideas came from?

Anyone thinking Trump's supporters want a dictatorship is stupid.  They just saw Democrats cheat in 2020 by abusing the mail-in ballot process that was conveniently used and abused during COVID.  Then watched people responsible for enforcing the rules and the courts allow them to get away with it.  And they're pissed off.  They're not anti-government or looking to overthrow anything.  They just want the douche bags running things gone because they suck.  And suck they do.  That's it.

I don't know why you need a whole thread when the answer is incredibly simple:

The main goal of the GOP is to take money from the average American and give it to the wealthy elite. This is an incredibly unpopular goal, which is why they leverage faults in our system and use bromides about freedom and emotion-inducing culture war issues to get people to vote against their own interests out of fear or anger.

Every single GOP bill fits into one of three buckets:

  1. Obtain or maintain power
  2. Make the rich richer at the expense of working Americans
  3. Invoke an emotional response (usually fear or anger) in the electorate so that they vote GOP enough to facilitate goals 1 & 2.

If we had an electoral system that empowered the working class and recognized the will of the average American, the GOP as it is currently constituted would never win another election. That's why they want gerrymandering, support the outdated electoral college, and only support democracy so long as it gives them the results they want. They are currently dismissing democracy because they recognize that if the people could actually exercise their will, there would no longer be a GOP. Democracy only works for them if it meets their goals. If it doesn't, then they host CPAC in Hungary because authoritarianism is what they will turn to.

If you were born the last time the Buffalo Bills appeared in the Super Bowl, then the GOP has won the popular vote just once in your entire lifetime. Despite this, they have had disproportionate impact on policy and law. That's what they want: a government of the minority, against the majority, all in service of the wealthy elites.

Enough with the David and Goliath analogy.

Neither side has clean hands. Both are victims and victimizers.

Why do you think Israel has check points etc? Just to be mean?  Why did they build the Iron Dome missile defense system and have bomb shelters for its citizens?  Did the Munich Massacre, airplane hijacking, bus bombings, discotecque bombings, .. have anything to do with how Israel treats Palestine?

Of course The Catastrophe was also brutal and mean. The settlements in the Green Zone are not helping things either.

I don't know what the answer is but I'm sure as heck not siding with the duly elected terrorist leadership like you seem to be.

I'm not really siding with either side cuz it's not like a football game where I'm siding with the good guys (Buffalo Bills).

Allah says if you are being oppressed, kill the oppressors. Ok.  But they've been trying this strategy of terrorism for 60+ years and they always lose and their citizens pay the price cuz Isreal is way stronger than them.  It is trying the same strategy and expecting different results.

When is enough enough?  Seems never.   It takes 2 to tango.

Because the Zionists are heroic interlopers on someone else's land? 😆

Give me a free house. Better yet give me your house free. You can leave... How would you feel. Of course give me the full support of the US military.  You can go live on a reservation with 16,000 per square mile while I turn your land into a socialist kibbutz.  😆

Wanna see me turn it into something great! 😉

Hey it's how we settled The West, kicked out the Natives to reservations and denied Spanish landowners their rights in Washington D.C.

Sure.

I am not saying that The Palestinians didn't make much of their end of the deal... They let the Soviets back them.

Israel has a right to exist... Just not at the expense of The Palestinians.  They are now the bully in the region.  Sometimes you have to deal with terrorists... Not dealing with their neighbors is getting then absolutely nowhere.

I mean... At least with the Native Americans we gave them a place to hunt and fish after putting them on death marches to relocate them.

True about the Indians. We stole their land and made them walk hundreds of miles on the Trail of Tears.  15,000 died. But you know what? They don't do terrorist attacks on us and many fought for us in WWII and other wars. Not saying that makes it ok, but it is what it is.

I really wish they could negotiate a peace. Hopefully they will someday.

What planet you on? Yeah they did! 😆  Yet, we did kinda break through to them to stop.

They stopped in 1915... Because they were all mostly dead. 😏

I guess the US wore them down.

I hope they can negotiate a peace... But that means ending 50 years of not negotiating with "terrorists."  Maybe that policy is the root cause of the violence.

This is a thread about Republican autocratic tendencies... So I will stop and let you have last word.

"Peace sells but who's buying"

The powers in control don't want peace.  Peace means everyone making consessions and change.

The far right Isreali government and the ultra-orthodox Jews running it don't want peace.  They want obedience from the Palestinians stuck in their open air prision.  They want to continue expelling Arabs from their homes in the West Bank to build more settlements occupied mostly by religious right "settlers".

Hamas doesn't want peace.  They want to destroy Isreal and peace means Hamas is no longer necessary.

Hezbollah, the de facto government of Lebonon, doesn't want peace.  Peace means they're no longer relevant.

The other Arab states in the region don't want peace through a semi-democratic Gaza showcasing the practice to their subjects living under the rule of dictators and religious figures.

Iran doesn't want peace.  They also want to destroy Isreal and exert their influence over the region.

While peace would serve the interests of the common person in the region, there's little to no benefit from it for the folks in charge.  But that's how it always is everywhere.

This is a perfect description of large cities. SF, Seattle, NYC are places where people are either rich or poor, the Dems maintain control on every lever of power, and they keep telling the people either vote for me they will put you in chains.

It’s obviously not. Have you ever lived in a large city?

To believe this is to believe that every Dem is the same. That there’s no difference between AOC and Joe Manchin.

Hell, there were constant posts on this very board about Chicago’s mayoral election in part because the candidates were very different despite both being Dems.

Where did I insinuate that all Dems nationally are the same? I stated all large cities. And yes all large city Dems are in a very specific mold. Whether it is Maxwell Frost to AOC to Pelosi, they all act the same.

Yes, famously Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson are exactly the same and that’s why nobody cared about Chicago’s mayoral election and it didn’t get any national coverage and definitely wasn’t talked about here.

People get accused of being pro-hamas or anti-semites for saying things like this. First casualty of war is the truth
