T&C Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 https://baynews9.com/fl/tampa/news/2023/10/27/mike-johnson-interview-israel-ukraine-aid-maine-shootings Johnson in the interview also touched on the mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday night that left 18 people dead — the worst so far in 2023 and one of the deadliest in U.S. history. The newly minted speaker dismissed calls from President Biden and other Democrats for the passage of new gun safety measures, saying that “this is not the time to be talking about legislation” because “we’re in the middle of that crisis right now.” “The problem is the human heart,” Johnson said. “It's not guns.” The White House on Friday slammed Johnson's comment in what has been seen as the first direct confrontation between the White House and new speaker since he assumed he gavel on Wednesday. "We absolutely reject the offensive accusation that gun crime is uniquely high in the United States because of Americans’ ‘hearts,'” White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement. "Gun crime is uniquely high in the United States because congressional Republicans have spent decades choosing the gun industry’s lobbyists over the lives of innocent Americans." When asked if there was any specific gun law he would support, Johnson demurred, saying he’s “been on the job 48 hours, we’ll see.” “There’ll be lots of discussion as there are after these heartbreaking tragedies,” he continued, adding that “in Europe, and in other places, they use vehicles to mow down crowds at parades” and arguing that “it’s not the weapon, it’s the underlying problem.” “I believe we have to address the root problems of these things, and mental health, obviously as in this case, is a big issue and we’ve got to seriously address that as a society and as a government,” Johnson added. Earlier Thursday, Johnson said that “this is a dark time for America. We have a lot of problems. We are really, really hopeful and prayerful. Prayer is appropriate in a time like this, that the evil can end and that this senseless violence can stop.” 2

B-Man Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 (edited) This is what we actually know. All the rest is propagandist spin LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — The Army reservist who opened fire in a bowling alley and then at a bar in Lewiston, Maine, killing 18 people, was found dead Friday from a self-inflicted gunshot, ending an intensive two-day search that had the state on edge. Robert Card, a firearms instructor who grew up in the area, was found dead in nearby Lisbon Falls, Gov. Janet Mills said at a Friday night news conference. “Like many people I’m breathing a sigh of relief tonight knowing that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone,” Mills said. Commissioner of Maine Department of Public Safety Mike Sauschuck said Card was found at 7:45 p.m. near the Androscoggin River, about 8 miles (13 kilometers) southeast of where the second shooting occurred Wednesday evening Leo Madden, who said he ran Maine Recycling Corp. for decades, said Card had worked there for a couple of years but said he couldn’t recall the dates and didn’t know if Card was “fired or didn’t show up.” “He was a good employee,” Madden told the AP, adding that nothing about the man stood out to him while he was an employee. Card, 40, of Bowdoin, Maine, was a U.S. Army reservist who underwent a mental health evaluation in mid-July after he began acting erratically during training, a U.S. official told The Associated Press. Card had been sought since the Wednesday night shootings, and murder warrants were issued against him. A bulletin sent to police across the country shortly after the attack said Card had been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks this past summer after “hearing voices and threats to shoot up” a military base. A U.S. official said Card was training with the Army Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment in West Point, New York, when commanders became concerned about him. State police took Card to the Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point for evaluation, according to the official, who was not authorized to publicly discuss the information and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Authorities had scoured the woods and hundreds of acres of family-owned property, sent dive teams with sonar to the bottom of a river and scrutinized a possible suicide note Friday in the second day of their intensive search. {Snip} The Cards have lived in Bowdoin for generations, neighbors said, and various members of the family own hundreds of acres in the area. The family owned the local sawmill and years ago donated the land for a local church. Family members of Card told federal investigators that he had recently discussed hearing voices and became more focused on the bowling alley and bar, according to the law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. When he was hospitalized in July in New York, Card had told military officials he had been hearing voices and said he wanted to harm other soldiers, the officials said. https://apnews.com/article/maine-shooting-lewiston-fed5ab0aaee9d7d4c0f0fccb3d301bb7?taid=653c6286d6113200014d6ec9&utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter He was mentally ill. 9 minutes ago, John from Riverside said: Literal screenshots of his media dumbass not that hard to find That's another lie . It's your policies/masters that creat it. But you all don't care. It's some place between not grasping the topic past talking points and some racist mentality where minority lives don't mean as much to you as when some white victims.
