He's taken some time but he has developed. Both he and the Bills deserve credit there. Now, can he take the next step? On 10/16/2023 at 12:41 PM, BaaadThingsMan said: Agreed. Just going to need some cap maneuverability next year and honestly some fresh legs. Poyer has been the good soldier here but he's a tad off the play lately. Poyer needs to go, and as strange as it is to say, Tre White needs to be cut as well. We save $6.5M by cutting White that needs to go to re-signing Epenesa, Jones, and Floyd. Rousseau we have a 5th year option still and dont need to worry about that for another year at least. Edited October 18, 2023 by DrDawkinstein 2 Quote

Money well spent if they can lock up those three 1 Quote
dollars 2 donuts Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Man, if he stays tenacious and then also just finishes the year with 10 plus sacks… Honestly, he is going to get more money than maybe the Bills can afford. God bless him, too, because I am not going to say he isn’t worth it even if it is just based upon 1 year. 2 Quote

That's like the whole defense. Got to want AJ back the way he's playing, even if Von gets back the way he was you have to want the young guys to stick around as they start to turn it on. Quote

AJ and I made eye contact yesterday and I told him I loved him. He said he loved me back with a smile. I’m not lying either. He definitely looks like he likes it here. 3 1 Quote
MAJBobby Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Right now his value is likely around 8M a year. Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Let him walk. This team can't afford to pay backups. There is no cap room for that. They are going to have to extend Rousseau soon. And they have Miller under contract for a couple more years. Let Davis, White, Poyer, Lawson, and Epenesa go this offseason. Hopefully extend Jones. If Dawkins keeps playing this well I'd extend him now and free up some cap space to make a move for a WR before the deadline. He's played good football. Far better than last year. Draft WR,OT, Safety, DL in first four rounds. 1 Quote

No problem there, the money will come. Epenesa MUST be re-signed. He and Rousseau are the future of our DEs. With the way AJ is playing, it is foolish to call him a backup. He's in a rotation right now, but could just as easily "start" as Floyd (who I love). I'd like to see AJ re-signed, and Floyd and Jones extended. Rousseau will get 5th year optioned. Then we dont have to worry about anything for 2 more years. 2 1 Quote

I'd seriously consider extending him in season. 1 Quote

Could be Erik Flowers and Chris Kelsey. Re-sign AJE. 2 Quote

Trying to think of a comp that has hit free agency. without lining them up side by side maybe Trey Hendrickson? Day two pick that exploded in the contract year? All that money we talk about with whether to pay gabe is starting to quickly shift here I think. 2 Quote

AJE is stepping up and taking Gabe's money this year. 1 Quote
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 In yesterdays BN this was discussed and comment was likely won't be able to afford him as teams tend to over pay for pass rushers so likely the idea of a hometown discount goes out th window. Maybe if the Bills sign him now could get him cheaper, but if they wait till year end, be surprising unless they make him their top priority to resign. Though think they'd also want to sign D Jones more longer term too. 1 Quote

Saint, man, he has been football porn lately. stopping the run, getting to the qb, blocking passes, interception, touchdown mayhem to the offense fumble recovery he's just been stupid good. Quote
Maine-iac Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 He's been injured so Miller hasn't been killing it on the field but I'm sure he has a ton to do with our young DE's showing new found abilities to get to the QB. As his contract plays out I'm hoping our money is reinvested in AJE and our other young DE's. Quote
Nephilim17 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I like AJ's play so far but he is, as Ethan in Cleveland has said, still a backup. We are tight against the cap and, depending on how we draft, may have to sign in free agency... #2 WR Maybe one starting safety as Hyde will be a FA (remember, Rapp is on a one-year deal) resign Daquan Jones or a replacement Maybe an RT Maybe a starting cornerback That won't be cheap. In a perfect cap world we keep AJ but backup defensive end is not a top priority compared with those starting positions. Quote

Hyde on the other hand is still playing at a solid level Quote

As for AJ, he's been good but it's a small sample size. Maybe you could get him cheaper than what his value will be at end of season Von Floyd Rousseau AJ Kingsley for next season would be nice With how Floyd and AJ are performing, the cost of the position they play, their age, and lack of wear and tear - there is ZERO chance this will happen. Especially when you consider the amount of money we (don't) have and the amount of other FA's we have at other positions. Including Daquan Jones (and ALL of our DT's except Ed Oliver), Gabe Davis, and Micah Hyde - all starters that will need to be re-signed or a capable replacement needing to be signed. LabattBlue Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 For the people calling AJE a backup, look at the snap counts for AJE, Rousseau & Floyd. Pretty damn close for the season. 1 Quote
