Red Zone Channel Critique

I said this last year after the Siciliano option was gone and the first time I watched Hanson I was who is this clown and what is this mess.  Siciliano always used to do a great job segueing to the different clips and games, setting them up on what was happening with context.  He was the live director and host - pulling things together in a more coherent form.  Hanson to me is all about HOW AMPED UP I AM which I guess is his brand.  I guess a lot of people only ever watched Hanson so that is what RZ is to them and they don't know any better - but it really pales in comparison to what Siciliano used to do.   The only way I only ever watch RZ now is with the sound off on a 2nd TV

If I wanted to watch 4 games at once on 4 separate tiny TVs, I'd do so. Just stop with the multi-screen. I have a 65" TV and when they go to 4 boxes, with all the dead space on the screen, it's about the same as watching a game on my phone.

 

When RedZone started, it was perfect. They'd show you a play in full screen, then switch to another game to show you that play- even it happened 10 seconds ago. Those were the days.

 

This week, I found myself just streaming individual games when there was action I wanted to see, but it was in a tiny window on RedZone.

Ugh I like Hanson. He does a great job and seems really enthusiastic. I don't think many guys can pull that off. 

 

I tend to agree w Quad box, especially when it's such a common feature on YouTube TV UI. That being said, minor problem.

Loved RDZ with Siciliano. Much better than Hanson.  Thought the production of DTV RDZ was overall better.

 

Found myself a bit annoyed yesterday at the number of times they used the multiple mini box’s.  Especially the end of that time periods slate.  I thought DTV RDZ was a bit more judicious at showing multiple games. They would hold off a bit and show the other games action.

What's frustrating for me is I paid for NFL plus and don't want to pay the youtubetv sports package when NFL plus includes redzone.  I can't figure out how to screen mirror it (through the NFL app on my phone) to my tv as all I get is the audio and a blank screen.  I can screen mirror everything else on my phone to the tv. Now I know what my grandfather went through on D-day.

Same. 65” and have no issues following each game in quad boxes. 
 

Last week had 10 games going on in the early slot so it was going to be a mess no matter what they did.

I’ve been a regular watcher of red zone with Hansen.

 

my dad signed up for directTV as his tv provider ( but not a football fan) but got it in his package. The times I was there in the fall I watched the games including Direct version of red zone.

 

I didn’t really notice a difference with Siciliano vs Hansen.

 

ober my years in watching they usually have cued up big plays in order in full screen earlier in the game between 2-4 games about yo score.

 

they have always gone split screen or 3-4 at once when you get to late in the 4th

 

of course Hansen and his team have made mistakes or seemed to pass over big plays or delayed showing them 

 

10 games in one slot makes it hard to cover them all. 
 

later in the year they tend to focus more on the big games than the toilet bowl games of below 500 teams othervthsn touchdowns or they do have a tight game with a close ending.

 

other factor is in coverage and broadcasts.  When you have a clearly dominant 2 pm game being broadcast to much of the country they try to focus on other games. An example would be you have 4 games onnFOX. 3 of thrm will just go to their traditional markets and then one game goes everywhere else.

 

I’ve also seen them screw up.  In the late games when it’s after 7 pm and you have only one game on the DH network thry can’t broadcast domestically because most TVs are on the national broadcast on CBS/FOX.  There have bern times the “ token” 4 pm ( not 425 game) is the last one standing and they have stopped showing that. That 405 game is generally on in primary markets and a few other markets.

 

they also can’t broadcast after 8 pm if you might have a lightning delayed game thst hasn’t finished yet and it’s not exclusively on the 425 station.

DTV RZC did a better job in those situations.
