Getting the first down or not getting it really has no bearing. It was a business decision on his part. Had he tried and failed the effort would have been remembered and appreciated.

On Diggs long TD just last week he didn't stop. Didn't just go down. Fought through 2 guys. Point is you never know what may happen on a play.

Exactly.  I have no respect for that man.

Comparing a 28 year old prime WR vs a formally retired QB we brought out of retirement who NEVER had athleticism... is asinine

It's literally a stupid comparison... Orton was gonna retire before we dragged him back

He wasn't a prime athlete

And thinking he's taking that hit is stupid considering his age and style ... most QBs are sliding and that's a fact

99% of players value health and he's not a RB

Bills fans value toughness over talent.. they will take a less talented player who is tough over talent for 60 years of this franchise

Orton wouldn't have played again if he didn't slide but bills fans would rather have him demolished and talk what if

Unfortunately he played in a very mediocre era for Bills football but he was okay as a QB. But we never see him at Bills games leading the charge or coming back for alumni events. Why is that?

I laugh each year the Orton cigar photo pops up on my FB feed from XX yrs ago. Sadly, he was in such preservation mode at the end after knowing he was going to retire, I think the phantom sacks kinda washed away what he was able to do here. In the end, even though I like the dude and even have one of hos game worn jerseys - he was just the anti-Manuel. He would sling it and take chances EJ wouldnt. He was a very poor mans Fitz and even poorer mans Favre. Dude just slung it and at the time it was a breath of fresh air

All of this. And one addition - people talk about that play as though it was game on the line it all came down to it. It wasn't. Not even close.

Yeah, I was an Orton fan until that point.  Not because I thought he was franchise but more so like a Fitz that could hold the fort down and I thought EJM was terrible.  That slide though... totally made me say F him.

I will say being at the game vs. The Vikings where he converted a 4th and 24 before throwing the game winning pass to (I think) Sammy Watkins was a blast. One of the craziest moments from when I had season tickets. The Uncle Rico memes were hilarious too.

As much as Marrone was a quitter, he was a better Bills coach than Rex. For all the complaining people (including me) have done about McDermott, it's night and day comparing him to anyone from the drought era.

Go Bills!!!

The original question that was asked was "Why doesn't Orton get more ex Bills love".

When talking about Orton that slide always comes up. I can't speak for all, but speaking for myself it's not so much that he slid and didn't take an unnecessary shot. However that play is more symbolic of his efforts in a Bills uniform. I'm reminded of an old quote I hear years ago.

"There may be people that have more talent than you, but there is no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do."

It's been said over and over her that he was basically retired and painted like we had to drag him kicking and screaming onto the field to play. He was offered a job which he chose to take.

Bills fans choosing toughness over talent isn't an Buffalo exclusive thing. It's a pretty common factor in football fans (and in life in general) that people that put in the effort are usually respected and remembered more fondly then those that just do the bare minimum. That was Kyle Orton. The bare minimum. And THAT'S why Kyle Orton doesn't get more love as an ex-Bill.

He doesn't get love cos he played here for 12 games. Had they broken the drought he would get love slide or otherwise. People who hang on to that slide are ridiculous.

below is exactly the answer I was thinking about when the question above was asked. The guy expected to come out of retirement and carry a clipboard for a few weeks and get paid 5 million. An offer that was too sweet to refuse. Tried saying that he thought it was second down, which is just as bad as making the slide if true (which I don't believe it is.)

He played like 14 games.  Also, 3rd down slide against Denver with the playoffs on the line.  He gets as much love as he deserves.

I thought about it. He still sucks and he is a coward. Dude had 2 good games against the jets and led us to less points/ game than EJ in the other ones.

people who like Orton like ranch with their wings.

Orton was one of the best I have ever seen who would literally sack himself... It got impressive after awhile, he would just be like, "meh, I have been standing in the pocket too long, time to sit down."

Low blood pressure can do that to you.  Take the snap from the centre too quickly, drop back quickly, and you see stars.

I believe the CoT still does special

It was third down. Your memory is horrific, go watch the video evidence of the play.

The myth of the slide continues to grow. Next it will be Orton slid before the goal line with no time left.

You are correct, it was third down not 4th, he said he thought it was second down. Shame on me for not watching the play. Didn't mean to upset you.
