Jordan Pushing for Tuesday Speaker Vote

Ooo, this is getting ticklishly interesting!

Tentatively and originally scheduled for Wednesday, scheduled Republican nominee for Speaker of the House Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio is said to be pushing for an earlier Tuesday vote instead.

He had a pretty good morning after first running into some hardcore GOP opposition who have since come around to his side.

the house money (and politicians that eat at that troth) hate the idea of Jim in that role.

POS Conservative Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio is bringing the House back to the floor Tuesday to vote on whether he will succeed ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy and finally end the chamber’s prolonged paralysis amid deep GOP divisions.

Jordan picked up key support from holdouts heading into Tuesday’s vote, which comes two weeks after McCarthy’s historic ousting, and his allies are bullish that the Ohio Republican can corral the 217 votes he needs to be elected speaker. But it’s not clear whether Jordan can be the one who unifies the fractured House Republican conference, with some lawmakers still opposed.

Florida Rep. Gus Bilirakis will be away from the Capitol on Tuesday for his mother-in-law’s funeral, further complicating the vote math for the Ohio Republican. Jordan can now only lose three votes, instead of four, but this is a temporary drop until the Florida congressman returns. Bilirakis will arrive back in Washington Tuesday evening, his office told CNN.

Let's hope for unity and clarity in the House.  It's the best outcome for all.

Not if it means an election denier is made Speaker of the House. He is a criminal

That’s silly talk.  It’s not criminal to disagree, though some people seem to want to criminalize dissent.

Election denialism was already a thing in the House back in 2016-2020.   I even recall that mean girl ripping up papers and throwing them about like Ken Dorsey after a failed shotgun snap/run on 1st and goal from the one.

We’ll be fine.

Geez dude, you want the Israelis to stand down after their people were slaughtered, but you’re flipping your lid because you prefer your brand of election deniers over others?

Think of it like Dr. Pepper v Dr. Thunder.  You might prefer one over the over given a choice, but you don’t always have a choice.

When our friends Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, and their ilk were elected, there was a lot of talk - much of which was justified - about how the far left flank of the Democratic Party was trying to take over. Guess what? None of them ascended to the leadership.

Meanwhile, the far right flank of the Republican Party is about to ascend to Speaker of the House.

So which party is more extreme?

Senate GOP warms to idea of Speaker Jordan
The Hill ^ | 10/17/23 | Alexander Bolton

Senate Republicans embarrassed by the prolonged stalemate in the House over electing a new Speaker are warming up to the idea of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) taking the job.

Jordan has long been regarded in Washington as one of the most hard-line conservatives in Congress. He founded the House Freedom Caucus and played a leading role in challenging President Biden’s 2020 election victory.

But Senate Republicans who were pulling for former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to hang onto his job and then quietly rooted for House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) to wield the Speaker’s gavel are now willing to give Jordan the “benefit of the doubt.”

Senators say the leadership vacuum in the House is a major problem that needs to get solved as soon as possible, and they worry that if Jordan can’t marshal a majority vote on the House floor, the impasse could last for days if not weeks longer.

“We just need effective leadership. We can’t have this nonsense of a handful of people questioning a Speaker every time we have to deal with difficult subjects, and we have a lot to deal with,” Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C. said). “I hope that Jim’s up to the task.”

Tillis and other senators think that Jordan has “evolved” since his earlier days of tormenting GOP leaders and helping chase former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) from power. Boehner once called members of the Freedom Caucus, which Jordan once led, a bunch of “legislative terrorists.”
