T&C
No matter how much money or manpower or ? you want to throw at stuff like this it will always be a losing battle. In this case, the beach will always be there for the foreseeable future... just less overpriced houses and eateries. Home insurance going up? This is just exhibit A. It goes on all around the Country for various reasons/situations/weather circumstances. Without getting political... why do we keep spending millions/billions trying to fight a force that clearly has the upper hand? https://baynews9.com/fl/tampa/news/2023/09/26/county-seeks-help-for-anna-maria-island-erosion

Without getting political... why do we keep spending millions/billions trying to fight a force that clearly has the upper hand? You can't answer that question without getting political. Without going into detail, the answer is related to the bolded part above. 8 hours ago, ExiledInIllinois said: What's the economic return for the rest of the nation. None. The benefit is for the few who profit from the overpriced houses and eateries. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/27/opinion/hurricane-ian-recovery-florida.html Quote Building up to code is costly — far more so than building wood-frame beach bungalows. It also requires a tolerance for risk that often only money can buy — when insurance no longer covers full rebuilding costs, mainly those with deep pockets can build on the water. That means existing property owners like those of the Silver Sands, Red Coconut and countless private homes end up cutting their losses and selling. What will go up are apparently second homes and luxury resorts that can turn a profit in a few years before another hurricane hits.
