Dare I say Chris Brown is a better PBP man than John Murphy?

I was actually going to create a topic about this today. I had to listen to the game yesterday while at work and I could just feel the excitement and the domination of the game through his voice. Yes, however he is a little too excited.

I like Brown as a reporter, but I can’t stand his screeching whenever a Bill makes a good play. Fingernails on a blackboard would be a relief after him.

Sudden bursts of shouting are expected during a game. What I can't stand is when he starts shouting during One Bills Live. Over something completely unnecessary.

Truthfully, just about all "hometown" announcers are brutal.  You hear the clips if you are driving around listening to SiriusXM NFL Radio on Sunday...I cringe at 95% of the touchdown calls.

The ONLY gripe I have of Chris Brown, and it's significant (at least for me) is he is CONSTANTLY way too excited and LOUD.

 

And i'm only talking about his show with Tasker.  Brown gets too loud.   Almost like he's screaming at times.   Dude needs to chill.

I completely disagree….he is brutal to listen to.  I never was a fan of Murph but I prefer him to Brown any day and hope he gets back ASAP

Murphy was an excellent color commentator. He has never been a good PBP man. I agree that Brown is better, but that's not a high bar.  He has room for improvement and hopefully, given time, he will improve.  Murphy, given time, got worse.

No way that this is an actual quote…I refuse to believe anyone could be so lame…😉

I do like his enthusiasm and he does a decent job...

 

He suffers from the same problem that Murphy has though.  I listened to the first 20 minutes of the game on the radio yesterday.  You have little idea of down/distance or the depth of a play.  Van Miller used to paint that picture so well and build that information into the intensity of his voice and calling the game.  

 

"Theres a pass out there to Kincaid... he grabs the ball!  He is brought down there by XXXX.  Nice quick pass there by Allen who was already feeling some pressure from his left side.  They only gained 3 yards though and its 3rd and 7.

 

Most plays can be anywhere from 1 yard to 12 yards and you don't really know for too long.  Id say Brown is a little better at giving those details on a timely basis than Murphy.

I appreciate Chris Brown's enthusiasm.

Murph made it sound like he was at a funeral. There were amazing long TD plays that you would have thought were a 5 yard pass on 3rd and 10. One was the long TD pass in the Patriots wildcard blowout.

I think he sounds psychotic on his calls. 

 

Screaming at the top of his lungs. The type of screaming that strains your guts he's yelling so loud. 

 

Other guys around the league have an iconic/recognizable voice.

I only watch the games, so I don't hear his entire play by play. However, every clip I hear of him sounds like he's screaming at the top of his lungs, which is a bit hard to listen to

Everyone needs to listen to other play by play guys just for perspective. If "sounding psychotic" is a turn-off, you're in for shock.
