A powerful D Line is Josh kryptonite and he’s figured it out This is the key. And a lot of it is scheme, which means some guys are blocking while others are running routes. I'd be curious how often TEs, RBs anyone not a OLman that is staying in to block. Might explain why certain plays aren't being called. 3 Quote
GETTOTHE50 Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 How many more 3rd and longs by Dorsey does it take for some of you to realize that’s what is causing these turnovers? 1 1 1 1 Quote
Logic Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I think the biggest change I've seen the past two weeks -- and make no mistake, this is likely due to Ken Dorsey's coaching -- is that there seem to be a lot more passing plays where Josh Allen's progressions are from short to long, rather than long to short. This is a HUGE difference, and a big reason that Josh suddenly looks much more comfortable back there. Less double-clutching, less running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He seems to be being coached that if the short completion is there, you take it. This, in turn, gets him in more of a rhythm and builds his confidence, and when shots ARE there (see the Gabe Davis TD and Knox end zone drop) he takes them. To add to that, the coaches seem to be instilling in Josh that he doesn't need to be a hero against inferior opponents. The most interesting andencouraging thing I heard during the broadcast today was the announcers saying that Josh said he "needs to be aware of who the opposing QB is, too". In other words, there will be weeks where he needs to sling it and let it loose and make things happen (vs Mahomes, vs Tua, etc), and weeks where he simply needs to be smart and take small profits (vs Howell, vs Garappolo, vs Mac Jones, etc). Great stuff. 10 4 1 Quote

Harty getting 5 targets/rushes while Kincaid gets 2 targets on 1 yard passes is criminal. 2 1 yard passes in the first minute….. then he disappears completely thanks to one illegal shift and a BS tripping penalty I’m really hoping that we’re holding back so we can unleash him vs the poor Miami LBs on Sunday. 3 1 Quote

The problem is who can we count on outside of Diggs? Kincaids caught 11 of 12 targets…. the only incompletion was a borderline forced pass that almost got him killed in the end zone 1 Quote

I was there as well, and I don't feel bad for them. The majority of them left with like 13 mins in the 4th when it was still 16-0. Quote
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I think some of the frustration with the offense is that they left meat on the bone considering what the defense was giving them. Those field goals were the right call, but it's hard to not be a bit worried when Miami puts up, even on a dumpster fire of a team. But overall, it's hard for md to be that mad at Dorsey apart from that 4th and short head scratcher. He slowed a pass rush I was told would maul Josh. Allen had a clear pocket all game. The run game has worked wonders for game balance and we have running backs who can come off the bench plug and play for tough yardage. But we better have a plan to finish the job next week because we are going to need more drives finishing as touchdowns. Quote
DabillsDaBillsDaBills Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Can I B word about the officiating in this thread? I'm still heated about the tripping call on Kincaid and the forward progress ruling on the MacLaurin fumble. They ruled forward progress had stopped when the question on the play is whether the WR had it long off to be a catch and fumble or was it an incompletion that he never had possession of. Washington also got away with a half dozen blatant holds. I guess if you're down 30+ at home just hold on every single play LOL. 5 1 1 Quote

After my initial anger, I said to myself, "Self, I pray these 4 things were going through Josh's head on that play: 1. Ball gets caught 2. Pass interference 3. Incompletion 4. INT = Punt The media will roast Josh, but I was actually ended up being ok with it. Quote
MAJBobby Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 So I have watched Miami Defende really close the three games with Vic Fangio. Dorsey cannot go into this game thinking it is a typical MIA defense. he has played a lot more zone than MIA has in past. Doesn’t dial up many pressure packages either. vest leaky with the Run. I do think this week there will be more intermediate routes to use (like Vegas) but don’t think this is a man press team like in the past with deep plays all over the field on the one and ones or the WRs running open on the crossers because of the amount of Zone he is playing. 2 Quote

Rockinon Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I honestly think the play calling will improve as the season goes on. Just getting to a point where Josh isn't under duress for 4 qtrs is a major improvement. I was very impressed with how much time he was getting. Washington certainly still got some pressures but our OL held up pretty well. As far as play calling goes, it just seems like they are testing the waters on offense. Trying to figure out what plays and players they can consistently depend on. It almost seems like they still haven't opened up the play book. Maybe, I'm off here, but I'm not so certain the play calling is the real problem. I think they are looking for more players to become stars. Am I reading this wrong? Maybe it is brain farts on Dorsey part. I don't really buy that though. 1 2 Quote

But then be sure to give him his props for the offensive success. Pass pro, running game, Allen’s efficiency…this is him too One thing I noticed a lot today was the TE routes took a while to develop. By the time they were looking for the ball and open Josh was going elsewhere. A few could have went for big gains just took way too long. Quote
