DNC: Learn a Lesson? Nous?

Ed Morrissey

Plus ça change, plus c'est la ... double-down?

One might have thought that the Democratic National Committee would have learned a lesson from the 2024 election about the unpopularity of "woke." Joe Biden spent four years promoting DEI policies, and Kamala Harris ran on that as well as her own even more radical notions of 'diversity.' One such brag, a 2019 interview in which Harris took credit for supplying felons with free transsexual therapies while in prison, turned into the most effective message in the election.

 For Donald Trump.

After losing the White House to the man the DNC desperately painted as the next Adolf Hitler, one might think that Democrat leadership would rethink their approach. As Dave Weigel reports in a dryly humorous Twitter/X thread, one would be entirely incorrect. Not only did the DNC embrace the DEI message in its annual meeting, but activists protesting a lack of enthusiasm for it had to be removed.

Pelosi, Schumer, and the billionaires come out on the short end. A pity.

Martin had the endorsements of the influential Rep. Jim Clyburn (D., S.C.) and Minnesota governor Tim Walz and picked up two more ahead of Saturday’s vote, when candidates Marianne Williamson and Nate Snyder dropped out of the race to back him. Wikler had the backing of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.), as well as the party’s largest donors. Billionaires Reid Hoffman and George Soros gave $500,000 to Wikler’s Forward PAC, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

The Democrats, you know, the guys who are against high taxes on imports

Vote Democrat, Vote for lower prices

But for high costs on everything in general.

Sounds like a winning message. I wonder what went wrong.

He's just talking about imports from Canada, Mexico and China.  They were fine, or at least conveniently ignorant of everything being higher in price because of the optics.
