Huge bulletin board material here

players will never see it on the bulletin board. its just a blip merged in with thousands of other blips on the gigantic bulletin board.

Anyone here watch The Last Dance? Michael Jordan was never more motivated than when someone on the team or fanbase or media gave him a reason to be. Bulletin Board stuff is as real as it needs to be for each individual player. Some guys block it out, other absolutely feed on it.

I was going to say the same thing. The last dance was basically about Jordan finding that extra motivation/focus. The people who think it isn't real never played a sport, or if they did weren't very good.

I think bulletin board material can help, depending on what the material is. Even if it only gives you 1% more motivation to kick someone‘s ass, I’d say it helped. That could be the difference between a win and a loss. One more hour of film room. 2 more reps. Few hours less with the family and at the facility. Whatever.

Regarding bulletin board material- I remember the moron Rex saying he doesn’t even know NE RBs names- that RB that game has a huge game against Buffalo.

Being doubted and disrespected is an ultra powerful motivator

I played and coached semi-pro soccer and was paid pretty well for it. It's placebo effect.

The people who don't think it's real quickly forget McDermott getting pissed at Matt Fairburn for showing a picture of the scrolling quote board the Bills have in their locker room that displays all the media quotes disrespecting the Bills and their players.

It's very real.

It’s an immeasurable argument on both sides; however, a placebo effect still produces a desired outcome.

For a large team sport like Football, I’d say bulletin board material becomes less important. What good does it do for Josh Allen to be more focused, if Dawkins isn’t and gives up a strip sack? The majority of players would have to be on the same page for it to have some effect imo. The possible exception being QB.

Basketball is 5 players and much more conducive to one player possibly taking over the game. So something like this could be more relevant.

Just my 2c.

I was just coming in to say this. It doesn't do something for everyone, but there are guys out there constantly looking for fuel.

What are the "multiple examples" for Josh Allen? They'd have to be assumed examples bc he never gives anything but a diplomatic, all business, drown out the noise quote.

So you're saying you believe that a Baltimore reporter "may have just lost them the game", as OP said or that Dion Dawkins posting "good luck" to the Chiefs was the reason they beat us?

It shouldn't be possible for a Professional Football Player playing for the right to go to the Super Bowl to be more motivated than they already are. And if they need it to be more motivated, there's a problem. A quote isn't going to make Josh Allen read a coverage better or make him more accurate on a throw.

These things are way more important to fans and media looking for things to talk about than things that dictate a win or a loss.

You don’t remember the “I don’t know who the fork they thought I was” game against the Patriots.

I believe he chirped hard at Jalen Ramsey the game after the trash comment.

You’re referencing what Allen says in his pressers. Which is nothing. But he gets caught with hot mics on the field chirping at players for stuff they’ve said about him or the team all the time.

This is a very good point. Basketball can be turned into a 1 on 1 game for many moments. Football different in that regard. Not that Josh Allen doesn't play the MJ role quite often.

But did he play better because of it? I don't doubt players notice it and if it helps them feel like they are locked in, great. But in reality it doesn't make a difference.

I believe that was the “perfect game” game. Certainly impossible to say any of this with certainty. But if you’re going to ask “ it did it help” have a perfect passer rating is likely a tough result for your hypothesis.

I hadn’t gotten all the way through the thread. I thought this was just a “do players use reporters for fuel?” Convo. To which I say unequivocally yes.

In regards to does it help? I’ll just reference the Thomas Theorem. “If men define a situation as real, they are real in its consequences”.

Don't let Sabres fans hear that quote "solid ownership." 😂

The Sabres are a necessary sacrifice that I'm willing to make if it means a Super Bowl.

Somethin like ‘city of losers’ has to piss the whole team off pretty equally though lol I do think the whole idea of bulletin board material is a little bit overblown but that is an extreme example haha
