Personally, I think "bulletin board" material is WAY overblown by fans and media.

These guys are professionals. Playing for money in bonuses and extra game checks. Playing for glory. In the Playoffs, playing for their season.

I find it hard to believe that someone saying something is the difference between them playing and winning and them playing and losing. Or that now that some reporter said something, we're going to get better than their best - which they're surely already giving us.

I don't think bulletin board material makes someone better on the Football field. I think bulletin board material is something you point to after defeating your opponent for further humiliation and that's about it.

In Football, playing overly emotional could just as easily be a negative. McDermott would be the first person to say 'drown out the noise and focus on executing the game plan'. Having a better game plan than Baltimore and executing it to perfection is what's going to decide this game. Not some reporter talking some ish about Buffalo.

Mahomes “Good Luck” on his IG after the Divisional win here last season was a direct shot at a player on our team who made comments

players get fuel from this type of stuff

Von even posted a clip on his IG after the game yesterday clearly responding to Surtain’s  “it’s our time now” stupidity

which is also why Mack Hollins took that penalty.  Players are always aware of these things

Like I said, it's something that you use to further humiliate your opponent after defeating them. Just like he did.

"Good luck" wasn't the reason Mahomes beat us. It didn't make him play an amazing game. He wasn't lights out against us or anything. He basically did just enough. He played against us a lot better in other games.

players will use anything said in the media as a “disrespect” to give themselves what they feel like is an edge. It very well may help players be better in moments of the game…more focused…more determined to win

It certainly made MVS amazing for that game after a terrible regular season.

You're free to believe what you want. Personally, I disagree that it's remotely as big as you make it out to be.

We're going to get the best game they can give us. I don't think professionals who are prize fighters, playing for money, glory, their season (some for their careers), and a push to the Super Bowl are going to be any more motivated than they already are.

Especially by a quote from someone who isn't even on the field.

Players talk about it all the time. There are numerous stories from current and former players about things they used for motivation. Tom Brady and the Patriots were always finding comments here and there to get a chip on their shoulder to motivate and play harder. The 90s Bills were constantly finding things like that. Thurman Thomas and Steve Tasker have been on One Bills Live numerous times talking about that.

You just aren't correct about this. The players do use bulletin board material and it actually does motivate them to play harder and seek to humiliate and dominate their opponents. Josh Allen and the current Bills have multiple examples of that as well.

Wow... lost a lot of respect for Harbaugh in that clip

I don't think Harbaugh said much wrong. It was more the knuckle head reporters. But still. It is a bad look, even for Harbaugh to entertain them on that line of questioning.

What are the "multiple examples" for Josh Allen? They'd have to be assumed examples bc he never gives anything but a diplomatic, all business, drown out the noise quote.

So you're saying you believe that a Baltimore reporter "may have just lost them the game", as OP said or that Dion Dawkins posting "good luck" to the Chiefs was the reason they beat us?

It shouldn't be possible for a Professional Football Player playing for the right to go to the Super Bowl to be more motivated than they already are. And if they need it to be more motivated, there's a problem. A quote isn't going to make Josh Allen read a coverage better or make him more accurate on a throw.

These things are way more important to fans and media looking for things to talk about than things that dictate a win or a loss.

Ravens media have amnesia or forgot about Lamar getting his ass handed to him in the 2021 Divisional game I guess.  TJ's 101 yard pick 6 was legendary...

Late 3rd Jackson literally knocked out of the game. Might be the best play of Edmunds career here.

I think it can add to a player's adrenaline rush which usually enhances his performance.  It's definitely overblown though.

On the contrary - in my experience coaches and players seek it out and use it whenever possible.

It's placebo effect though IMO. People think it makes a difference. In reality I'm not sure it does.

I disagree.  Sports are very much about emotion. It's why we push extra hard at the gym when Lose Yourself comes on your headphones, or why momentum swings when one team makes a great play.  These guys are still people, and any kind of fuel for drive is going to elevate their game.

Why do you think that would make a difference? She was the one who invited McDermott's wife to the yacht while poor old Doug Whaley was still trying to submit slips to interview Keith Butler. The Pegulas, as a couple, have been in all in on Sean from the start.

They were all in on Sean, because Whaley convinced them to be.

Anyone here watch The Last Dance? Michael Jordan was never more motivated than when someone on the team or fanbase or media gave him a reason to be. Bulletin Board stuff is as real as it needs to be for each individual player. Some guys block it out, other absolutely feed on it.

Short term emotional bursts, sure. That doesn't last 3 and a half hours of an NFL game. I think being taunted on the field for example might get that bit more from the opponent on the next play where they get a chance to hit the taunter. But the idea that bulletin board material can sustain extra effort throughout and NFL game? Nah. That's placebo effect.
