So you're perfectly satisfied with Sean?  His playoff defenses have been spectacular.  His in game management without a question is Belichickian.  He's safe for the next several years because Terry promised him perpetual job security. Super Bowls are over-rated anyway. It's all about the regular season bling.

6 straight double digit win seasons. 5 straight division titles. Yeah I think he’s pretty safe lol. Obviously the goal is to win it but only one team does. 13 seconds is the one I felt slipped away. But the past two times in the playoffs the defense was derailed by injuries. We were playing 3rd stringers on defense vs. the Chiefs and still almost won it just came down to a few plays.

That’s what playoff games are. One or two plays decided outcomes. It’s easy to point at coaching but it ultimately comes down to the players to make plays. I do feel this our best shot since 2021 AFC title game

McDermott isn't getting fired even if we got blown out in the wild card round. So, I hope your fingers don't hurt from typing all that. Because it was a waste of time

But would Pegula insist on him bringing a DC with a better scheme....Would Schwartz come here as DC ?

I don't know if yesterday's defensive performance was because we played well or if the Jets offense sucked ?

Don't know why anyone watches Colin Cowherd. He just continually has bad take after bad take, week after week, year after year. Plus he's smug.

He's been down on Sean for a long time and the timing of this discussion is just so poor with how the Bills have been playing. IF, BIG IF, the Bills lose to an inferior opponent early in the playoffs, fine have this conversation. But it is ridiculous to me to be talking about it at this point.

Why do we have to have this conversation every year. 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.....it's pointless now. Sean has become an urban legend to a large contingent of Bills fans.  He can do no wrong.  Winning a SB or even getting to one is far less important than the beauty of him digging us out of 17 years of despair.

The Jets were a complete train wreck. They committed 16 penalties.  Yet there were able to move the ball down the field at will until they turned it over with their 42 year old qb.  When we get to the playoffs we're going to face better offenses and superior coaching. Maybe Josh can go shock & awe and outscore everyone?  But mark my words there will come a moment when we need a huge defensive stop or an incredible call by McD.  I hope this time it happens....

The problem is not the man, Sean McDermott.

The problem is Sean McDermott’s defensive scheme.  The undersized front and tweener linebackers are subject to injuries.  I find it ironic that we understand controlling the line of scrimmage on the offensive side of the ball but still don’t draft and scheme to control it on the defensive side.  We have a great regular season defense but it all changes in the playoffs.  The term “fool’s gold” is a good term to describe this defense.  Additionally, the line of scrimmage issues come to light when we play physical, run-focused teams.  I think this coupled with the lack of experience on the back end with our safety play will result in an early playoff exit.  The strength of the defense is the ability to disguise coverages and bait turnovers.  I don’t see us doing that against an equally good team, especially one that can run the rock and control the line of scrimmage.  I think we’re getting set up for a Bill Parcell’s type lesson in the playoffs.  Run the ball, eat clock, keep Josh off the field.  I hope I’m wrong.

I can NEVER get past 13 Seconds McClapper, where he was exposed to the world as an end of game HCing buffoon!

I will change my opinion only upon winning the Lombardi.

Playoffs?

Certainly, vastly superior QBs, not end of career clowns!

The Achilles heel is the D that cannot get 3 and outs, nor get off the field- quickly.

Yiu cannot relying in overcoming multiple defensive deficiencies with every game turnovers!

I can’t see McDermott with a DC that has a completely different philosophy. Oil and water. The defense we saw yesterday is exactly what the Bills D is ; an erratic defense that gets takeaways. They’re not shutting anyone down in the playoffs outside the WC round. It will be Josh Allen putting on the cape and taking the Bills as far as he can take them. Will it be the AFCCG ? Super Bowl? We’ll have to wait and see.

Bills fans will not decide the fate of McDermott. That decision lies with Terry Pegula. Yes, the conversation is somewhat pointless for that reason.

McDermott and his defense are destined to fail in the postseason. He is terrible against the top QB's and his coaching counterparts

It's literally up to Brady and Allen to completely overwhelm the opposing defense to come out on top in a matchup against KC and maybe even Baltimore now with Henry to open things up for Lamar.

2022: Struggled to contain Skyler Thompson and the Fish.

Not disputing the rest but this really is not true and keeps being repeated. Their first touchdown came after Josh threw a bad pick that gave them the ball at the Bills 18. Their second touchdown came on defense when Josh fumbled and they scooped and scored and two of their FGs came when the Bills stopped them quickly after another Josh interception at midfield and a long punt return set them up already in FG range.

The Dolphins scored 31. Of those 31, 20 were gifted to them by the offense and special teams.

Miami's drives that day:

2 yards

2 yards

10 yards

38 yards

18 yards

8 yards

18 yards

0 yards

1 yard

4 yards

-9 yards

13 yards

75 yards

5 yards

30 yards

If the Bills had lost that game it would have been on offensive turnovers and special teams blunders, not because the Bills had any trouble with Skylar Thompson.

I really believe that with the Sabres being a mess and Terry’s and Kim’s medical issues at home, I don’t think Terry will want to fire McD and destabilize the bills. He’s got a good thing going and needs to sell PSLs at the new stadium still. McD can win. It just hasn’t translated to the post-season

The McDermott conversation comes up a lot for obvious reasons. When you don’t win it all there must be someone to blame.

I don’t think people understand how hard it will be to have more success than Sean McDermott. His replacement is already on the hot seat year one. Must win the division and advance in the playoffs.

As we see with the Bengals, just having an elite QB doesn’t guarantee that.

The Bills are more likely to get worse with a coaching change, not better.

I’d say the jets killed themselves with turnovers and missed opportunities

During the McDermott era I would say the biggest failure has been the defensive line. A lot of resources have been dumped into the defensive line without the results.

I don’t know who exactly picks the players. I believe McDermott is King of the Bills and everything goes through him, but we can’t have a “fire McDermott” conversation without talking about Brandon Beane.

Again, replacing either one would be very difficult. I believe they are a package deal anyways. If one goes the other will follow.

More fire McD crap threads.

how many of these are on this site?

We will continue to have them until he does something new.

13-3 … done that before

win the division … done that before

#2 seed in conference … done that before

People want to see upward movement. Get the 1 seed. Get the bye. Go to the Super Bowl.

Anything to show improvement.

That being said, the amount of steadiness he brings is impressive and I find it implausible to think we could get another coach that gives us that improvement.

I agree with Cowherd and he'd be on the hot seat if I was the owner.  I just don't see Pegula firing him after this year though unless the request comes from Josh Allen.  We're talking about a guy that can't even find an NHL head coach to make the playoffs in the 13 years he's been their owner.

And if they were both fired there would be at least three to five teams that would hire them right away as a package deal.

I see nothing critiquing the play of the personnel, the personnel itself, schedule, injuries, weather, luck, or anything OTHER than the head coach.

You do realize there are many, many moving parts here, right?

The team is 13-3 and just won 40-14.  We could do a LOT worse with Ron Rivera.  May not want to cut nose off just yet.  🙄
