Of course he does, but the man was slobbering over the Bills and Josh Allen the whole time.

Again, I don't care who is he is a fan or not a fan of.

It's is utterly irrelevant to me.

What did you want him to talk about?  How well Trubisky was handing off?

How about "Another sack for Greg Rousseau. He's been dominant defending the run game since he joined the Bills but now he's really starting to show some abilities as a pass rusher as well. You gotta love the guy's nickname around here; with all that length and power they call him Groot  "

Is it really that hard to just be competent?

You may not care but most of this thread is about how Collinsworth has some kind of anti-Bill bias when almost everything he said was extremely complimentary to the Bills and to Josh Allen in particular.

The thread starter had nothing whatsoever to say about CreeperC's rooting interests because the thread was supposed to have nothing to do with that.

Unfortunately a handful of people who are apparently obsessed with being fawned over by the media have tried to turn it into a discussion akin to a middle school popularity contest.

The irony of you saying that "Its pretty clear people hear what they want to hear" while you blatantly ignored the original post and tried to steer it off-topic toward your personal obsession is not lost on me.

Collingsworth might just be the worst, but in general, I can't stand the color commentary watching NFL games on TV. Let the viewers watch the games and form their own opinions. They constantly over talk and treat viewers like two year olds who don't know anything.

What's most annoying about this is how much it works, with regard to casuals. Most specifically some of my family members whose commentary on the bills is like a bad highlight reel of prime time narratives.

I had no intention of steering this thread anywhere.   It had been steered off that post a long time ago as with most threads on the board.  I was just responding to what a majority of the posts in this thread was about.

It was a stupid comment. I actually don't think Collinsworth and Tirico were very good last night.

But all things considered they are still the best of the big five booths for me.

And so to contradict @Simon's statement one of the things I look forward to the most when I tune into SNF is the quality of the announcing.

I find at least one half of all the other A teams insufferable.

I used to agree with you on Collinsworth. For years, I thought he was the A-list color commentator for good reason. In the last couple years, or so, I have soured on him considerably. I think he's gotten lazy. And when he just shows up and starts blathering, without doing any homework on the game, it comes off as arrogance to me. That's perfectly exemplified by his comment on Groot. Truly, he didn't know what he was talking about, but spouted off anyway. It's his (well-paid) job, and to know about the teams he commenting on, and it does a disservice when he doesn't.

That's all just my opinion, of course-- and take it with a grain of salt, as I'm in the clear minority of people who actually appreciates Tony Romo's color commentary. I think he's the best in the biz.

I agree and would hazard a guess that we're actually in the majority but a very vocal minority creates a different impression.

Tony Romo is great.  I really don't think there is anyone close to his level.

An excited yell of “no, no, noooo” after a play like that and find a problem with it?  Some of you are just looking for 💩 to complain about. What a doofus comment.

Excited? Listen to it again, it sounds like he was annoyed he was going to have to praise a QB that doesn’t wear #15 for doing something good. If he had any enthusiasm in his commentary i might think differently. Didn’t realize my comment was going to upset someone so much. My bad Mr. Collinsworth, I didn’t mean to hurt your fragile ego.

I do think there is something in that. He isn't as good as he was. I agree.

I can't appreciate Romo though. I find him a brutal listen. He is scared to do any analysis in case CBS tells him to dumd down again and his voice is awful. The talk fast, getting higher pitched "this is going to be the game Jiiiiiiiiiiimmmmm" stuff grates like nails on a blackboard.

I don’t know. I kind of heard it like he was giddy and in disbelief of what had happened. But I get it on both sides. I know he fluffs Mahomes hard, but he is usually very complementary toward Allen too..

Oh you are the majority. You are just wrong. Romo is awful. He started out great and then got neutered by CBS and now adds zero value to broadcasts.

That is exactly how I heard it too and IMO you gotta have a pretty big chip on the shoulder to hear it the other way.

I'd probably be hesitant to suggest a personal preference is wrong.

I was obviously being slightly facetious. Just as you are referring to Collinsworth as a Creep. I do think there are still more people who like Romo than don't but honestly I really struggle with why. What does he do well?

Collinsworth is still the best at seeing in real time what has made a play work or not work without needing a slow mow. Often Romo will start watching a slow mo saying something like "watch here Jim the guard misses his block and that leads to pressure...." and then as the replay develops ends up correcting himself to "oh no it was actually a delayed blitzer... great call by the coordinator." And that irritates the hell out of me. Once we are into the slow mo I can see for myself what has happened. His screeching is adding no value at all. Collinsworth is rarely wrong when he calls the Xs and Os even before the replay. He just has a better eye.

Ya and every 5 yard crosser is some historical moment in the NFL that only the guy who threw it could have accomplished

Ha. Collinsworth and Romo are both definitely guilty of that. If that is your main irritant it is entirely consistent with your wanting Kirk or Troy.

To me Kirk normally comes across as bored and Troy as drunk but if low key is your thing I can see why you like them.

Literally my only criteria for being a good color guy is can you tell me something I haven't seen. And Collinsworth still does that better than anyone.

By the end of the game CC has basically called every player on both teams including backups all-pro. He's fitting both rosters for gold jackets

I'm glad you at least found value in his early work, as I certainly did. For 4 or 5 years now I only get to watch roughly half the season on a TV with audio (season tix), and on those weeks I turn down the broadcast volumes or socialize with friends or what have you to actively avoid the shrill and repetitive and unsophisticated corporate narratives that nearly all broadcasts shove down our throats.

Collinsworth screeches when he whispers. Collinsworth's voice is grating when he sings a lullaby. Collinsworth's self-satisfied whine is at least as unpleasant as Tom Brady's insecure shrillness, but the broadcast vet has had many more years to workshop his TV impression of a real human being who likes and studies sports activities with at least a shred of humor.

Agreed here. All I ever want is someone who will translate what's happening in real time into an authentic NFL language. Watch the same screen I'm watching and tell me what you're picking up on pre-snap and post-snap and whatnot. Point out in-game trends and adjustments. Speak candidly. So, you know, I want something I will only get even a glimpse of (in brief little quips) from the Mannings.
