They guy is VERY good. But only QBs impact the game in a way that justifies this amount. Even him, Watt and Donald don't have as much impact as a Mahomes or Allen.

Well, not our problem :)

Disagree.  Von Miller had 8 sacks before tearing his ACL.  He dominated the game against the Rams and then against the Chiefs.  You don't win those games without his contribution.  The DE is that critical to have a super star.

I'm old enough to remember reading Ralph paid 40,000 for the rights to an NFL franchise in his 2nd choice of locations when he did not get the Miami franchise he wanted.

Lol I was born  same year As Bills 1960.  Think they played 3 games when I was born.  I looked it up recently and mentioned they had a winning record when I was born so I expect they finally getting back on track for my 2nd childhood....

49ers had other options.  Force him to play on the tag or trade him. Sometimes you just have to make the tough call and let them go be someone else's cap problem.  The master of this was of course Belichick but Ozzie Newsome was good at it too.  Both won titles with great defenses. Not sure that is possible anymore.

Chandler jones and Richard Seymour were great.  Nick Bosa is different.  If they trade him, they won’t be SB contenders.  They have some nice players on D, but don’t get it twisted.   He IS their their chance to win a SB

I wonder if the NFLPA will bargain next time around to elevate the minimum salaries. They are the majority of the players, and I’d think they would want to limit the excessive paydays that leave less for them. Squeeze the gap? Random thought.

I’m old enough to remember when that was considered QB type money

It wasn't even that long ago that $20 million a year was good QB money. Things have ballooned really quickly over the last decade.

Peyton Manning was the highest paid QB in the NFL in 2010 and was making $19 million a season. We're more than double that now.

They did in the last CBA.  Each year the minimum salary has 45k added to it under the current CBA (raised to $750k this season from $705k last season).  The last CBA only had a $15k yearly increase.  The one before that had a $10k yearly increase.  I would expect them to push for an even higher number in the next CBA.  It's always tricky because the higher you push for an increase in minimum salary the more you're suppressing the salaries of the truly elite players.

After adjusting for inflation that $19 million is $26,635,951 in today's dollars, which is still being doubled by the current Qb signings. It just shows how these salaries have incredibly ballooned.

  • Meaningless Pro Bowl competition
  • HoF candidate announcement
  • Super Bowl Sunday
  • SB MVP goes to Disney
  • All Pro Ballots
  • Clearing out Lockers
  • Players going to their favorite Holiday spots

Probably missing a few others...but the point is the NFL is broken down into so many chapters with each one garnering national attention on a daily basis.  Go Bills !

The QB contract is starting to flirt with becoming prohibitive.

The QB plus superstar WR1 combo is definitely prohibitive in modern terms. (Allen/Diggs are nearly $75M next season)

This right here...

I understand wanting to get paid and setting yourself for life but don't act like a petulant baby when the team can't sign good supporting role players and you get bounced from the playoffs year after year.  Can't have it both ways.

This. Qb, LT, and DE. These are the most important positions. I’m sure around 10 pm Monday everyone on here will be screaming in the game thread that “Rodgers looks to comfortable back there” and “why can’t we beat this crap o line?!” while JAGs like Epenesa and Lawson struggle to get home. Von would change that. Guys that wreck games are worth every penny. The Niners know this. He’s going to line up next to Hargrave and Armstead and No QB this year will be safe.
