CajunBillsBacker Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 FYI, the Mikan family accepted Shaq's offer... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2005...tory?id=2075294
John from Riverside Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I know that I am going to catch flack for this.....but oh well here goes..... First....let me say that it WAS a class act to pay for the Mikan funeral....... Now.... Why the need to glamorize yourself for doing this charitable and selfless act.....why the need to announce it to the world? Why not just do it? I will tell you why....because with each passing day the media around the world are starting to change their stance regarding the Shaq/Kobe thing.....they see Shaq running his mouth and they see Kobe keeping a low profile and keeping quiet regardless of what is said by the Deisel......which has been PLENTY. More and more the media is starting to call Shaq out and call out Kobe less.....Shaq needed a PR move and this was it. Kobe Bryant on the other hand does TONS of charity work but doesn't need a camera crew following him around to do it. JMHO

Nationally I don't see Shaq going after the team who spurned him hurting him at all, and Bryant has even less cache than he does in his home market.
TigerJ Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Shaq is not perfect, but then none of us are. He seems to have a good and generous heart that some of these mega rich sports stars don't have. I admire him for that.
CajunBillsBacker Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Oh Geez, why does everything on this board have to turn into a political debate. Shaq is a guy who has never been in trouble, and has always done things for the goodness of heart, he doesn't need to do these things to get good PR, his game already does that for him. Why can't some just see that he just did something great out of respect for a man he admired, and just leave it at that! I know that I am going to catch flack for this.....but oh well here goes.....
