Until the NFL or any sporting outlet understands this, illegal streaming will only grow more and more.  It's not that hard to port over to other countries servers either even if they somehow lock down the US pirate streams.  I hope the NFL is ready to take on the WWW like Germany tried? I think it's 13 home TV games if you count ESPN & the NFL Network.  My problem will be the Amazon & Peacock games.  I usually go to OTB & watch it for free with my Allen jersey on, but I won't know until I go there tomorrow if the have the new Sunday Ticket, I'm assuming they do.  They close at 7:30 so the Thursday games are out at OTB.  

So, for 2 games (3 because I'll be out of town for one of the 13 games on TV) it's not worth it to pay $ for what I can see (legally) for free.  

Things have definitely gotten tougher though the last few years.  I used to be able to watch just about anything for free with no sign up a few years ago.  All the cable shows & shows from GB & Canada.  Then that site got shut down & it's been harder to watch streams more recently.  It seems the only place there hasn't been a crackdown are the free porn sites.  I guess that would rile up too many powerful people.

EDIT: Important note here, it says they “are losing” millions/year, which is a bit misleading. They are more accurately failing to capture that money. “Losing” almost makes it sound like the media would want to enflame people by implying the billionaires are actually claiming they are losing money. 

 

Like taxpayer funded stadiums that politicians decided it was OK to steal the taxpayers' money.

Look back to my response about 7 responses before this, I agreed 100% with Appo?  re owners "extorting" municipalities for stadium funding so in that instance obviously agree.

Owners do not sneak in in the middle of the night and steal money from under your mattress. I know there is all kinds of stuff going on behind the scenes, but this is a negotiated transaction between elected officials and the owners. 

 

I know this is a sore subject for many, and I’m not looking to incite anyone, but are the owners stealing it, or are the politicians stealing it? Or are you just mad? The politicians just do what they think they need to do to keep their jobs. Maybe they read the room a little better than you do?

If you have NFL Network and don't have to get up on Friday mornings, they show the Amazon games about a half hour after the game ends.

It has gotten crazy. I have DTV Dish as it’s the only way I get NFLN. But we we have DTV Streaming for regular TV.  Then we have Prime, of course, so we get those games. And YouTube for Sunday Ticket. I feel like I’m missing something…..

 

But you know what? It’s all 100% my choice. I don’t LIKE higher prices and more subscriptions, but as long as people continue paying the prices they will continue to rise. This will be a balancing act and I wish I could invest in the owners. It’s not just the NFL, it’s all of sports and more broadly entertainment. We will pay for our entertainment. I don’t resent the comedians we payed $200/head to see last weekend. It was our decision. I don’t resent the owners either, even if that is unpopular with some.

The Patriots paid for their stadium in full - without public funding. As did the Jets and Giants. Rams too. 

 

When you illegally stream, you’re stealing from the pot that pays these teams as well.

Music piracy has been reduced substantially by providing viable services at prices that people will pay for to have convenient access. Obviously this isn't the case for the NFL, who have consumer unfriendly offerings at prices beyond what most are willing to pay.

 

The technology for stream sharing exists, it's accessible, but it's less convenient than a paid option. Clearly a large group of potential customer base would rather deal with that then pay $400+ for an incomplete service. The solution to capturing this revenue seems obvious enough.

Studies not done by those with a vested interest in "piracy" being a rampant problem (RIAA, MPAA, Etc) show that the largest reason for piracy isn't because it's free. It's a service problem. Time and time again, it's been shown that you can "solve" piracy by offering a service that is accessible, quality and priced appropriately. Netflix and streaming services did more to reduce piracy than any law Enforcement action or expansion of copyright ever did. Of course, now with the segmentation and degradation of content across those services.. they're starting the cycle over. 

 

On top of it, any number about how much is 'lost' on 'piracy' is completely made up. I can't speak to the NFL's number, but the MPAA for example includes the people working at coffee shops near where a movie is being shot as part of the 'lost money'.

How about the other 28 teams? Have they done the same or nah? Has their net worth not increased by being the beneficiary of billions in taxpayer dollars or no?

 

Good on the owners who didn't extort. But they're not losing out, either. The ad revenue's already been divvied up before the streaming even happens.

 

Who's losing them? Alphabet? A trillion dollar company?

 

I'm having a really hard time manufacturing tears here. It's not like some mom and pop store getting held up.

How did you hear the movie?  When I was a kid they used to have a box with the sound at your parking space that you put on the driver's side of the car.  I don't know when they started using radio frequencies because I haven't been to a drive in theater in decades.
