78thealltimegreat Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Despite the flack he takes for round 2 and the jury still out on 22 and 23 drafts his 18-21 drafts were actually quite good. Man the 49ers late in the draft geez talk about hitting home runs. 4 1 2 4 4 Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 How is he #2 in round 3? Love the Knox pick but he has not been that great(only good by Bills TE historical perspective). Moss was terrible. Singletary just average. Phillips was not good but did get a second contract for the Vikings. Jury is still very much out on Brown. Wait until Bernard is out of the league next year and he will drop. 3 3 3 1 2 Quote

Singletary, Phillips and Knox all played a lot. Most 3rd rounders do not start and are mostly back ups. 2 3 1 Quote
SCBills Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Certainly interesting.. May be some perception > reality, however the main criticism on Beane has been his inability to draft impact players. Rousseau, Cook, Kincaid and Torrence hopefully change that narrative. The reason Beane catches heat is because of who we're competing with.. Chiefs/Bengals.. and those two teams have hit on some serious game changers in guys like Humphrey, Smith, Bolton, Higgins etc.. Beane does do a great job at building a deep roster through scouting Day 3/UDFA's, but the draft separation between us and them has been those high impact draft picks. 4 Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) There’s a reason we’re a top 5 team consistently. We have great overall team depth and an elite QB/WR combo. Beane hasn’t drafted an impact player other than Allen. Allen being a QB cancels out a lot of problems. A lot of average. But a lot of average with elite QB creates a good team. I agree that we haven't had a ton of impact players but we have a lot of good players, average players and some poor. Quote

I said a couple years ago Bass is his best pick besides Allen. Edited August 30, 2023 by Buffalo_Stampede 1 Quote

Instead one was barely rosterable and the other is a DE4 that we hope gives us 3rd down pass rush ability in a contract year so he can pop off and sign a big contract elsewhere. Rousseau has been good, but we're still waiting for him to make that impact player jump. Meanwhile the Chiefs built an elite OL with two hits and the Bengals had hit on a WR1 to be their WR2. I will say, I'm not exactly impressed with the Chiefs recent high draft picks.. McDuffie, Karlaftis, Moore, Uzomah and Rice... We'll see. Feels a lot like the Bills high draft picks of recent (up until this year). Edited August 30, 2023 by SCBills 1 Quote
oldmanfan Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) Not drafting Creed over Boogie is the one I would criticize. Other than that he’s done pretty well. Edited August 30, 2023 by oldmanfan 2 Quote

This means 64 guys are already gone before the first pick of the round. 63 if the Patriots cheated again. You’re expecting a never ending stream of all pros? The answer would be to actually look at the other teams 3rds and compare. But it’s waaaaaay easier to complain. 4 2 Quote

Captain Caveman Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) I kind of agree with the premise, but I absolutely can't fathom how he could be #2 in the league with 3rd round picks considering Moss, Phillips, Bernard. Edited August 30, 2023 by Captain Caveman Quote
ngbills Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Difference between playing and being an impact player. Singletary played but was his level above just signing many of the available RB? If you use an early pick on a RB he better be really good. Rounds 1-3 should be used on premium positions unless it’s a guy you can’t pass up on. Quote

Johnson actually is underrated. For some reason I thought he was drafted in 2017. 2018 draft was so important and they nailed it. Edited August 30, 2023 by Buffalo_Stampede 1 Quote
