For whatever reason, he just didn't make any noise in Arizona. He had over 200 yards receiving his second season, which represents his career best in the NFL. After that, he seems to have been relegated to return duties only, and then wound up having a cup of coffee with the Ravens. The question is: was his lack of playing time and productivity in Arizona a result of his being a bad fit for their offense and/or the fact that their offense and QB play mostly stunk in general during his stint? Or is he simply a late bloomer and a better fit in the Bills' offense? Or, of course, option three -- his good camp and preseason play is much ado about nothing, with most of his work being done against 3rd stringers -- is also possible. It's because both he and Kyler Murray are 5'9" and Kyler couldn't see him... Edited August 16, 2023 by Doc

Shakir hasn't seized the slot role. Harty seems to have a specialty/gadget/WR4 niche. The staff seems to like Sherfield at outside WR more than the slot. Meanwhile, Isabella keeps earning praise from coaches and players and climbing the depth chart. He was a 2nd round pick. He's physically talented. He's fast and twitchy. He has roster value as a returner. Still just 26 years old. Might be a perfect fit for what is asked of the slot WR in the E-P offense that the Bills run. I wouldn't have guessed it, but it just might be happening. Andy Isabella. Who'da thunk it? You're probably losing a shorter or shakir if you do pull that trigger. His return ability likely doesn't factor too much into it with Harty being here. I'd say he's in competition with shakir more than anyone else, and he doesn't offer any ability to play outside while harty Sherfield and shakir both do. I won't be surprised if he gets better at his press conferences. Likely is not something he has done much work on and I'm more than ok if he only addresses that after he becomes the latest OC wonder guiding Allen thru a record setting offensive season with a SB Lombardi as the final touch. Most have said that Shakir only projects inside in the NFL. And Shorter hasn't done anything to be worried about cutting him and not being able to put him on the Bills' PS. Meanwhile Isabella's speed (4.31) is eye-opening. 4 1

Speeds great, but Isabellas got that body catching reputation and thats no bueno when you're 5'9". Speeds great, but if you aren't a good deep ball tracker or able to make anything contested you aren't going to get a ton of deep opportunity. Say what you want about bease's size, but he had a pretty decent catch radius and had some serious hands. If he can show to be a guy who can catch those allen fastballs in the short area he'll stick.

But if shakir keeps dropping passes, maybe, just maybe. I think Kincaid will take 65% of the slot reps While I do think Kincaid will play alot in the slot it's a nice change up to go from Kincaid to the speed Isabella can bring to the slot. Think of the possible variations can do if they have both Kincaid and Isabella on the field and they go hurry up not allowing a substitution by defenders and you switch who's in the slot. I'm thinking we are gonna see more no huddle elements as Josh expands his ability to ŕead ďefenses and having so many weapons to counter whatever the defenses throw at them. But when you consider the negative impact no-huddle can sometimes have on your own defense, it's also possible that our HC/DC might not be willing to sign off on it. I'd guess McD might be more inclined to get the O to the LOS fast to prevent defensive substitutions and then have them take their time with play calls and/or pre-snap reads. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them using sugar huddles to stress defenses both during the week and during games. 1

And I agree there's the downside to your own defense. It will be a handy tool to use if the defenses get a bit too aggressive and we use it as a punch in the mouth to get them reeling and back off. Then Josh can dictate what the Bills do while the defenses he faces are clearing their heads. Basically have our offense become the bully Rex wanted the Bills defense to be when he was hired. Except Josh and the offense has enough talent to do some damage. Ŕex was all talk and players weren't buying his message. What has Shorter shown at this point that A) makes another team want to sign him and B) makes him so indispensable that you don’t want to cut him? There are 4,5,6 rounds picks as well as 2nd and 3rd year guys all over the league that are going to get cut…I don’t think Shorter will be in as high demand as you think 1

He's also under contract for 2 more seasons so there is a cost control. He's fast, but he has a small catch radius, doesn't have plus hands, and he's just generally small. He offers a lot of the same attributes as harty, but harty is better as a deep threat and can play outside as well as inside. Long odds though - with Sherfield, harty, Shakir as slot options, Shorter as a 6th man seems more likely to me as he offers more as a variety piece who can probably play special teams. With Shell retiring i think he can stick on the PS at least to start the year. While I have nothing against Shakir and think he will develop but hard to know how much. To date his contributions are not such that you cannot move on if someone is outperforming him. There's also possibility that Isabella is willing to be placed on PS with a handshake dealt not sign on another team if any try to sign him away. Here is a pretty good description It can really put a lot of pressure on a defense, creating confusion and resultant assignment mistakes and/or penalties. Show it enough and they'll also be spending extra time during the week trying to prepare for it. If you can get good at it, it's a vicious little gimmick. 1
