Yes, Ashville/Charlotteville are not very diverse. is that why you like them so?

last I knew he only played some farmers fair and opened it up by reading the bible.

what is he selling and to who?

He turned down a record deal worth millions so I suspect his motivation is noble, albeit misguided.  I love those cities because they are beautiful and generally calm and peaceful as long as the Nazis stay away.

yes. I see by your prior posting you prefer areas without diversity.

Why misguided?

because blaming welfare recipients is justified for cheats but not for the truly disadvantaged.  And whining about it or his situation won't change it for the vast majority of people like him.  Unions will.  And universal health care.  And election reform etc.  Billy Bragg gets it.  Oliver does not.  Too much animus.

the lefty trifecta of corporate talking points.

The day the dems try to pass universal, it will actually just be the state funding the private companies. and probably only the ones owned by vanguard/blackrock

Were you in a union?  or just parroting a talking point?

by election reform, I guess you mean codifying mass mail in voting and ballot harvesting.

and Durham is what?

Durham is a city in North Carolina. It's part of the Research Triangle Region, known for its technology companies and scholarly institutions. On the Duke University campus are the neo-Gothic Duke Chapel and the Nasher Museum of Art, with work by contemporary artists like Christian Marclay and Ai Weiwei. The Museum of Life + Science has hands-on exhibits, a butterfly house and wildlife habitats for bears and lemurs

Durham is the most ethnically diverse of the major communities in the state, with roughly a 50/50 split between white residents and residents who are African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American or other people of color.

durham is terribly dangerous. outside of the gentrified area durham is ghetto af. it is being cleaned up slowly as the yupy crowd seeks to live closer to their jobs in the rdu.

but don't be fooled - durham is still very much the same as it was in the 80's and 90's when it was known for high crime and general slums.

Lord you're stooo- pid.  Asheville is in NC.  Quite possibly the most beautiful city in the state.  And largely blue.  Characteristics it shares with Charlottesville.  Which is in Va which is where the songwriter is from.  He won't be playing shows there as that's not who he's speaking to or who is buying his crap.

asheville has been struggling mightly in the last few years as they try to be like portland. street crime is up. blatant attacks in public areas from transient drug users is skyhigh. people are beginning to avoid it for this reason. i've been enough and every time i have seen a random homeless whackjob randomly assault a person on the street. the last time taking a blunt object and bashing some guy in the head saying he was talking about his sister. this was just some 40 yr old dude left with a bloody head as the guy hit him in the head and then went and sat back down. no one approached him, and police didn't even bother with him - just assisting the guy with ems.

outside of asheville is much, much better than the downtown shithole that is asheville. and even friends here in the triad are now just making the trek to the much safer Nashville than Asheville.

further, go look at the average amount of rentals on AirBNB for asheville. they're plumeting and going to cause a housing crisis.

i couldnt' be happier, either. burn asheville to the ground.

A large part of the reason unions and national healthcare probably can't exist in this country is because they are socialist principals

We spent Easter weekend this year at this hotel:

https://www.ihg.com/hotelindigo/hotels/us/en/find-hotels/hotel-search?fromRedirect=true&qSrt=sBR&qIta=99634581&icdv=99634581&qDest=asheville, NC, United States&setPMCookies=true&gclid=Cj0KCQjwuZGnBhD1ARIsACxbAVgmTGVGjniqwbEDsRNm8YojMvI0lREtLu9NiYtqSqWlMXACzbs3DGIaAgPbEALw_wcB&cm_mmc=PDSEA-_-G_F-AMER_FS-USA_H-AMER_HS-USA_IN_NBI_EXM_HOTEL-AVLIN&srb_u=1&qRad=30&qRdU=mi

right downtown and it was fabulous.  Car never left the parking lot.  Walked all over town.  Never felt threatened.  Curate is a great place to eat and there are many, many great restaurants there.  Old Europe bakery is phenomenal if you can get in.  Great music in pubs and brew houses.  Lot's of interesting people.  Beautiful cathedral for mass (a bit conservative for my taste)  to each his own.

Yes, Durham is impoverished but mostly with blacks.  I don't think he'll be playing there which was my point!

you don't use much social media do you? many minority and liberals are embracing the song. whilst i do not use social media i read social media news and read trend reports - - - he's trending among liberals who agree.

regardless, durham isn't as blue as people think. the old southern democrat is alive and well and pushing the gentrification of that area. it's quite... racist, actually.

asheville is trying to push the vagrants out. the sheriffs department and others have entered pacts with other local areas to ship them to their area. it happened in the tria with winston-salem and high point pushing all of their homeless to thomasville, lexington, and asheboro. the cities that do this are trash. but winston-salem is now safe and social compared to greensboro which is a shithole.

and lol.. you visit. you don't live in the area or spend much more than just a simple holiday.

Hickory is much more fun, much more clean, much more safe. Swanannoa beats asheville, too. west jefferson, etc.

people are getting their rooms in those places, as well as boone and blowing rock over asheville.

A long time ago, on what I guess was his first tour of America, Billy Bragg played a tiny club gig I went to.

Really nice, funny guy. Actually hung out with the small "crowd" (maybe 50?) after the show. Yes, a committed leftist and I certainly didn't then (and really don't now) agree with some of his politics. But a damn good songwriter and a man of integrity.

Asheville is a mess...

Last time I was downtown we were eating outdoors at Wicked Weed. It's right on Biltmore street downtown, so a decent amount of traffic. This was right after the mask mandate was lifted, so the patio was full of sane people not wearing masks outside. Then we had an SUV drive by slowly occupied by a throng of pink haired women who screamed  that we were killing people. They came around the block five times doing the same thing.

Was a single one of them wearing a mask themselves?

Of course not.
