ChevyVanMiller Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Yesterday was a tough day for lovers of 70s era singer/songwriters. First we lost the incomparable Robbie Robertson and then we learned Rodriguez had died at the age of 81. The singer, whose amazing road to fame was documented in the Academy Award-winning film Searching for Sugarman, was considered on par with Bob Dylan and gave up music here in the US, while not realizing he had become an icon in Australia and South Africa. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/09/arts/music/sixto-rodriguez-dead.html Here is my favorite song of his, Cause. RIP, Sugarman. 1 Quote
Logic Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Thanks for making this post. Obviously, Rodriguez's death will be overshadowed by Robbie Robertson's, and many likely don't even know who he is anyway. Such an utterly fascinating story. For those that aren't already familiar with the story and with his music but like singer/songwriter, folk rock kind of stuff, I highly suggest watching the doc and listening to the album. I enjoyed his music immensely, and wish that I had been able to catch him on tour over the past several years. Very, very talented writer and musician. 1 Quote
Nextmanup Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Sorry to hear this! I saw the documentary about him and immediately dug out all of his music. There are 2 or 3 of his songs that I LOVE. What an interesting/tough life he led. 1 Quote
