You are comparing two things that are not really positively correlated.  Guys that run a lot of deep routes, that require more ball tracking, are not going to have high catch %'s.  Deep balls are just completed at a lower rate than the short stuff.

the claim that was made was the he is a good ball tracker, so his catch % shouldn't be a career 53%.  In 2019, he caught 3 passes over 40 yards, only 20 total over 20 yards.    

 

the guy has had seasons with receptions in the 30's and 40's.  That's a guy struggling to get to the ball.
