BillsFanNC Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Per the Associated Press: Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s staff "prodded colleges and libraries to buy her books" and she has raked in at least $3.7 million in royalties since she joined the court in 2009. Back of the napkin math, compared to other Supreme Court Justices, Sotomayor has taken in: 430% increase from what Justice Stephen Breyer took in from royalties. 311% increase from what what Justice Neil Gorsuch has taken in from royalties. 270% increase from what Justice Clarence Thomas has taken in from royalties. 85% increase from what Justice Amy Coney Barrett has taken in from royalties. Per AP: "Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson signed a book deal, but the amount of her advance was not public."
BillStime Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 You gotta love when Karen Psyop unknowingly makes the case for establishing a code of conduct for the Supreme Court.
B-Man Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 No, AP, your new scoop on Sonia Sotomayor doesn't absolve MSM of partisan hits on conservative justices If you've been paying any attention to the mainstream media's coverage of the conservative Supreme Court Justices, you may have noticed a pattern. OK, you have definitely noticed a pattern. Our media don't like the conservative Supreme Court Justices. In fact, in at least some cases, you could go so far as to say our mainstream media actively loathe our Supreme Court Justices. Aside from the whole fueling-the-flames-of-violence-against-SCOTUS-Justices-over-decisions-we-don't-like thing that they've been doing for a while, they've also dialed up their let's-try-to-dig-up-dirt-on-Samuel-Alito-and-Clarence-Thomas-even-though-they-didn't-actually-violate-any-laws-or-Supreme-Court-ethics-rules-and-there's-not-actually-any-dirt-to-be-dug-up-from-that-hole thing relatively recently. Just yesterday, the New York Times published yet another career/character assassination attempt on Clarence Thomas: Uh-oh! You know what has to happen now, right? Sonia Sotomayor must resign and prostrate herself before the American people for her sins and then retire to a cave in the wilderness somewhere so she can never again be a part of polite society. That's how this is supposed to work, right? That's what Democrats and liberals said Justices Thomas and Alito had to do! It's the only way forward! Thank God we found out about this now. If there's one thing Democrats and liberals can't stand, it's corruption by Democrats and liberals in powerful positions. Or maybe they can stand it OK and what they can't stand is the rare occasion when a reliably liberally biased media outlet reports on someone like Sonia Sotomayor in a light that could be seen as even mildly unfavorable. https://twitchy.com/sarahd/2023/07/11/sonia-sotomayor-book-sales-n2385279 A poor attempt to pretend to bring balance to the ongoing effort to undermine the court’s legitimacy after exclusively doing stories on the majority 4 months hasn’t moved the needle. SS is a bad Justice, but her staff recommending her book be available at her speeches isn’t why. 1

The Frankish Reich Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 The boring-ass politician (now judicial) book is always a way of bringing in extra income through institutional sales. I have never bought a single one of these books, and can’t imagine who does other than libraries and other institutions. 1

Although having government employees who work for you promote your book and push for sales as part of their jobs is against the rules basically everywhere except SCOTUS. Hopefully, this will spur the GOP into actually supporting SCOTUS ethics reforms, but I won't hold my breath.
