The policy changed because the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade it's as simple as that. So what happens after that a bunch of states pass a bunch of new laws restricting abortion. But in the military you have to live where you're told so they had to make a policy change so as to prevent the choice being taken from military women who can't chose where they live. You can't exactly say it's a States rights/State by State decision and also force it on a group who can't choose the state they live in. 1

I'm not advocating for one side or the other, but to claim they don't have a choice is inaccurate. They have a choice, The issue is whether the government is to pay for transportation for exercising that choice. 2

Not on where to live, if the Supreme Court decided it's a State by State issue why the hell should the Federal Government make life harder for service women, by not giving them paid leave because they happen to be assigned to a State with laws that don't allow abortion when if they were in a different State it wouldn't be an issue at all?
