Senator Tuberville Holding Up Military Appointments

Recommended Posts

In a democracy, if you believe strongly in something but don’t have the support to put it into effect, you rally people on it and hope you can get enough like-minded people elected in the next election so that you can enact your vision.

If you don’t believe in democracy, or you’re a moron who has somehow Peter Principled yourself into government, you do what Tubberville is doing because democracy and/or risking national security means absolutely nothing to you.

As long as you guys believe Democracy is defined as a condition where the majority is entitled to have their way on everything against the minority then we're doomed.  Our system has lots of checks and balances against such abuses.  And while this is painful, its one of them based on the rules of Congress.  The administration has a choice here.  Be stubborn and stick to their position or negotiate and modify their position.

Democrats and Republicans make their move as predicted

They will do it eventually.

But they don't want to suspend the "holds" policy in case THEY need to use it after 2024.  -----   very principled.

Democrats eye rare procedural move to
defeat Tuberville military holds

The Hill, by Alexander Bolton

Senate Democrats are working with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and a handful of Republicans on a rarely used procedural tactic to defeat Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) blockade of more than 360 military promotions, a stalemate that has consumed the Senate for months. Democrats are looking at using a standing order resolution to move a block of more than 300 nonpolitical military nominees who have been stalled for months because of Tuberville’s holds to protest the Department of Defense’s (DOD) abortion policies.

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/4278434-democrats-eye-rare-procedural-move-to-defeat-tuberville-military-holds/

McConnell deputies and allies, including Lindsay Graham, Joni Ernst, Todd Young, and Dan Sullivan, told colleagues today they're planning an attack on Tommy Tuberville's hold on military promotions, modeled after Elizabeth Warren's attack a few months ago.

Tuberville has blocked unaccountable, review-free unanimous consent for military promotions -- all due to the Pentagon's completely illegal abortion funding policy.

They STILL can vote on them individually ANY time.

Why don't they ?

Why won't Schumer bring it up ?

Why does it HAVE to be a group vote ?

Maybe some senators don't want to be on record for individual votes ?

OR, they could change the policy of an individual senator being able to put a hold on vote. . . . . . . WHY DON'T they do that ?

Nope.

No one here can think past the headline.

They haven't solved anything tonight.

Please read.

Tuberville is standing up against a radical and extreme pro-abortion policy that the Biden administration imposed on the DOD.

What Tuberville has done to stand up against this abortion policy is both simple and reasonable, something all Republicans could easily support.

Rather than approve hundreds of military promotions without any oversight whatsoever, he's requiring the Senate to actually vote on them.

This is not how McConnell/Schumer/Biden would like it to go. They want it to just sail through with a unanimous consent vote and keep the abortion policy in place.

Tuberville has said for months that he's willing to go back to the old procedure of just letting them through without a vote if Biden will simply rescind his illegal and extreme pro-abortion policy.

A second feature of his hold on promotions, in the meantime, is that candidates have been able to be vetted a little bit, revealing that at least 40 percent of the candidates for promotion are beholden to dangerous DEI ideology, a scourge that is plaguing military readiness and effectiveness.

Anyway, instead of pressuring Biden to stop his radical baby-killing policy, or doing anything whatsoever to stop the spread of DEI in our country's war-fighting apparatus, McConnell is pressuring ... TUBERVILLE.

So last night he had his deputies go to the floor and freak out over Tuberville. How DARE Tuberville actually be pro-life instead of just pretending to be, like the rest of them? So they made him object to "unanimous consent" for a bunch of different nominees.

For four hours they suggested he was a terrorist, that he was making Putin and Xi happy, and said that his pro-life efforts on behalf of innocent children and their mothers were a "suicide mission" and had to end.

But -- somewhat amazingly in this climate -- Tuberville was not bullied.

Ignoring that he's already a ***** idiot for what he's been doing, this is just incredibly idiotic on it's own, his stupid ***** stand becomes entirely meaningless and he's just arbitrarily screwing over certain officers.

How about if he wants to ***** protest he chains himself to a podium in the Senate and inconveniences other Senators and himself instead of people who've done nothing to deserve this.
