How is the integrity of the game an problem?

Not being able to gamble on anything makes zero sense to me. NFL games I get it…even when it’s not your own game. Not being able to bet on a boxing match?? Make it make sense…

That seems a little harsh but maybe one year for non NFL games and three seasons for any NFL game.

The NFLPA has given Goodell free reign on the gambling policy so if I were him I'd ban gambling on anything while employed by the NFL (player, coach, administrators, water boys, etc.).  That would clear up any confusion.  Like I said, one season for non NFL gambling and three seasons for NFL gambling.

Yes they have given him free reign...in other words just enough rope to hang himself.   They dont want to discipline their own members so let Rodger do it and take all the heat.    Another reason why he gets paid so absurdly much.

Makes a lot of sense to me.

I am a trainer for Boxer X who has an undisclosed illness so I tell Josh Allen to bet the house on his opponent and when Allen gets a solid inside tip in a game his is playing,  he pays back his boxing buddy with the intel.

It's not a problem, but introducing gambling, which was brought on by the NFL and owners to deepen their own pockets, has allowed the integrity to look rather weak.

Ok, they’re suspended, but can they still do promotional work for DraftKings, Caesar’s and other league sanctioned gambling sponsors… hypocritical m****r f*****s.

Likely there is going to be an issue hushed up for competitive purposes but the team's players know they are likely to lose a big game but odds are in favor of them winning.

Players, especially players who are going to retire, will pass this on to family members to bet.  If they get suspended does it matter?

No, just that they endorse it now.

NFL: "Gambling is bad, and now a word from our local sponsor"

FANDUEL HERE!

DraftKings HERE!

BetMGM HERE!

The NFL didn't legalize sports betting, the states did.

the nfl does not think gambling is bad

the nfl thinks nfl players gambling is bad

really not that complicated

The NFL would also be committing business malpractice by not accepting sportsbook affiliations, which directly influence the owners' and the players' revenues.

Doc, Pat’s point I agreed with is not that I or he has a problem with gambling by law abiding citizens, it’s just the integrity of the game.  These players and employees have it beaten into their heads no gambling.  Period.

If they ban players or even more so employees who are not millionaires, it stops in one week and never happens again.  That’s it.  You guys want to do fantasy, place bets on fan duel or whatever, I could care less.  It’s you’re money.

I don’t only because IMO the house always wins.  If one wants to for fun, who cares.

I don’t care about the hypocracy of owners making $ on betting and prohibiting the employees and players, or coaches. It’s about the integrity of the game.  Pete Rose’s example etc..

Yes.  But they have looked weak for a while honestly.

Beat your wife: you good

kill someone: didn't see it so whatevs

beat your kid: shame on you, but your good for business

gamble: SUSPENDED!

Some of these have a very weak moral principle.  The other might cost the NFL to lose money because players are fixing games for themselves and costing the NFL and their endorsed gambling sites money.  A drop in the ocean I'm sure but they don't want to be fleeced.  They want to be the ones doing the fleecing.

They should now with the suspensions and you and I are on the same page that they shouldn't be allowed to gamble at all while employed by an NFL team.  Gambling is way less taboo than when Pete Rose was banned so I think a ban from the game permanently is a little harsh.  Three years seems like an effective deterrent.

Well for you Doc, I’ll draw common ground as the avg players only lasts 3.5 years so it’s practically a life sentence for the many.

The players just need to know it’s a grave decision.

The question was the integrity of the NFL.

How is that strawman?

They suspend players for betting but not committing actual real life crimes (You know, the type of stuff you and I would go to jail for if we weren't really good at sports).

They aren't the police. Their job is not to uphold the law.

They have a responsibility to uphold their industry.
