PrimeTime101 Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 (edited) So for me there are a few things I need Josh Allen to improve on because I do not think we have seen his Ceiling yet. I think Josh has been playing to much of a different game then Burrow and Mahomes because, until this year... the makeup of this offense has not been right. There are 2 things you can do if you do not have a top 10 offensive line. 1. Have great WR's or 2 have a some TE's that do different things for you that can help in protection and another getting open more. We now have that so for me, There is little excuse for Josh to take the final steps to greatness. Do not get me wrong he is top tier and the most dynamic guy out there... BUT.. there is STILL room for improvement and that should excite this fanbase! Steps for improvement Fumbles. 8 freaking fumbles last year. I would like to see JA break his own record of 4 or less fumbles this year. (I think we can all agree with this) Find the open player faster while in the pocket. I think this can get achieved do to a better O'Line. Last year Josh got a little jumpy in there because the lack of trust on the line. Poise. I do not need to see him have Joe Burrow Poise,,, But I think we can all see he loses it in his head from time to time A better VOCAL LEADER on this team. LOOK... lol... i do not doubt JA is a good leader, BUUUUUUUUUUUT ... lol... when that RT or that LG breaks down over and over I want to see Josh in their faces on that sideline. I know some are going to bring up play-calling in this thread. That is fine... But lets concentrate on what the "MAN" can do better and not the men behind the MAN. 2 if's. IF we finally figured out the offensive line and Kincaid is as good as many are predicting? We have a chance to blow this out of the water. I will always call Josh Allen the most Dynamic QB in this league. HE will always be on my top 3... but this year... he has a chance to be #1. I think he can do it.. What do you think? EDITED A run game that does not include JA as a main factor should not be left out. Edited June 27, 2023 by PrimeTime101 3 7 1 Quote
Gregg Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 A big part in helping Josh with these issues is better play from the OL. Last year the two Super Bowl teams had the #1 and #2 OL. The Bills was 26th. Josh does have to clean things up in his game. Some of those turnovers were 100% on him but his OL up to this point has been average at best and many times not even that good. Less "hero ball" and less running from him this year. Also, Josh is getting older, and these hits will start to take their toll if they haven't already. 1 7 2 Quote
GunnerBill Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 He has to be a better more consistent decision maker. Josh's ceiling is the best in the league. His floor is lower than the other top guys he belongs in the conversation with. And it is because of the decision making. I don't want to take the hero ball away. We are always going to have to live with a bit of that for the incredible plays he can make. But he needs to be more consistent as a decision maker. He can't live out of structure as much as he has at times. As for what the Bills can do.... the two main things are proctect him better and design more plays to get the ball out of his hands fast. 8 10 3 1 Quote

Udubalum07 Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Like others have said, it all comes to protecting him. If you go back and look at the 2021 playoff games. His protection was solid. That was JA at his best which was completely lights out and best in the league. Those games are what drove BB not to mess with the line much last year, and is providing them hope coming into this one. I feel a lot better about the line this year besides depth at the tackle positions, so this could be the year we were all hoping for last year after those playoff games from 2021, where he was unstoppable. 2 Quote
Airseven Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Allen needs to improve his poise, accuracy, timing, touch, footwork, ball security, decision making, and overall consistency of execution. 1 2 2 1 1 3 1 Quote

Don Otreply Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 As said above, some of it is on Josh himself, a lot of it is on the O-line, and some on scheming guy open with more frequently, etc etc, 1 Quote

I have a lot of confidence in Conner and Mt. O Cyrus as significant upgrades. This will help give the protection and time Josh needs for success. It will also provide better running lanes for Cook who is much more explosive than Motor (I liked Motor so not knocking him) as well as Harris is a banger. Towards the end of the year Murray can come in with fresh legs and help the team. Better rushing and interior protection will make it easier for Allen to find his targets faster as he did all the way up to the KC game. 1 Quote
Rc2catch Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 I can’t disagree with most of the comments on here. I think for me, the key is to take some pressure off of him with a run game. Got to be able to win multiple ways and buffalo can’t win unless Allen is the whole offense. Hopefully that changes a little this season but I won’t hold my breath 2 Quote

Hard to pinpoint. In fact, I don’t think he’ll ever be the best nor needs to be the best. His playing style will always have pitfalls. It’s about fine tuning across the board and minimizing gaffes. 2 Quote

Lines seem to improve from the inside out more a less anyhow @blacklabel any reason for the sour face on my main post? If you disagree with something, I got broad shoulders... i can take it but lets hear it Quote

His injuries happen in the pocket, I like the designed runs but we just have too many, it is like a crutch, when we really needs yards they dial up a planned run. 1 2 Quote
Warriorspikes51 Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Having a quick passing game like we did against the Rams....which seemingly disappeared for the year after that Take the high % plays 1 4 Quote

julian Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 He like every other player in history has areas in which he can focus his attention and try to improve but there’s no perfect player. I get the exercise, let’s point out these areas and discuss. I hope fans while participating in this can appreciate they’re watching a HOF QB who’s been good enough to win a Super Bowl for 3 years now with another 10 years upcoming. Quote
Nephilim17 Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Yes, decision making is key. I hope the addition of Kincaid will help him take first downs more often over lower-percentage 20-30 yard throw, especially across the field. Josh is a great guy with generational talent but he has not been consistently very smart with his decisions. Certainly not last year. He can still hit bigger play from time to time but consistently taking the 7-12 yarders will make the defense respect the short-throw game more and not guard against the deep stuff as much. Plus, I'm hopeful Kincaid can be a YAC guy and turn a 4-yard pass into 8 yards or a 12-yarder into 18... 2 Quote

One thing that I would like to bring up is that while Allen does fumble, QB fumbles as a stat are often not the whole story. Just off the top of my head I can think of 3 that were charged to Allen that really shouldn't have been. 2 on QB/C exchanges where the center (IIRC Morse had 1 and Bates the other) was pulling to the right off the snap and snapped the ball into his own inner thigh. Allen never had the ball but was charged. The other is off the flip to McK in the KC game. That was charged to Allen but muffed due to McK's lack of basic football awareness. 1 Quote
Fleezoid Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Imagine if we had a good running game. I mean a really good running game. play-action would be deadly! It would mean he could get the ball out quicker too. 1 Quote

If you disagree with something, I got broad shoulders... i can take it but lets hear it Haha not really, man. Just messing around. I dunno, sometimes I see similar posts and I just think, "Hey, the dude does his job pretty well already." Since his rookie year I've seen the guy as a gamer, especially earlier in his career. It wasn't always pretty, didn't always go according to plan, but you could see the dude was gonna give it his all every down.. I think other comments have made fair points that some of Allen's mishaps are on the OL. Yeah, we don't wanna see fumbles but with as much as he scrambles and runs it just kinda comes with the territory I think. We also know the injury last season had some affects on how he could play. He does seem to have cut loose a little bit now that his relationship ended. I dunno if that was negatively affecting him or not. There are a buncha rumors and BS surrounding the Bengals playoff game. Either way, dude says he's never been more focused on the foosball. Hopefully he stays healthy, the revamped OL gives him more than 0.004 seconds to throw and the other dudes who are there to catch ball and run ball do good at catch ball and run ball. Ball.
