I pretty sure she is talking about her first year of life.  She has to recall that perfectly.  Maybe she is talking about late 80's through the 90's...

meh.  being a kid/teen in the 80's, 90's was both awesome and a real-life obstacle course at the same time.

 

But back then one overcame said obstacles. Being a victim wasn't a badge of honor like it is with people now of days.

The Christmas bombing of Hanoi, mentioned above, resulted in the ceasefire a month later.

Prior to that the North was torturing POWs and refused to discuss release, resulting in the White House decision to launce operation Linebacker II.

Anybody who understands anything about that debacle lays it flat of the feet of LBJ and Robert McNamara.
