If this tourist craft Is found in time This story goes straight to Hollywood movie production. The script would  literally write itself.

Even if not found in time this story has the creep factor all over it. A  mean gnarly Horror film instead.

I would like to know one way or the other what did happen in the end.

But I may need to learn with disappointment. 😙 We may never know.

Having a black box aboard such craft is such a no brainer really it's amazing they never thought of it.

this is requiem post to my earlier thoughts. to the  blue I think that In view of the deaths being instantaneous. And in cinema those deaths could be achieved by mental not necessairily visuals effects.  someone somewhere could think of a story of a small group of explorers going to visit the site of the titanic  and make it compelling.

I wouldn't go see it necessairily either way. It's morbid and could be seen in poor Poor taste to profit off of a personal tragedy. yeah No.

To the orange I am glad that there is evidence the vessel was destroyed and spare those people agony in our minds eye . Absolutely

And to the black at that high an underwater pressure such a device likely wouldn't survive or be able to be found intact? That I am guessing but it reads logical.

The Navy heard the implosion when it occurred. Sad. Wall Street Journal article:

Yeah, multiple news sources have shared this now.  I'm glad to have these defenses in place, but at the same time you wonder what goodies exist amongst us.  Not a conspiracy guy, but jeez.  It's almost like these goodies help us avoid world wars, but also don't lead to better behavior either.  Ugh.

Great tweet.

honestly, disagree with large portions of the tweet. I think the fact that billionaires with the world at their fingertips chose to go in a modified propane tank with a bucket to go to the bathroom to look at wreckage on a screen really caught people. The controller is just an easy symbol to point to of the absurdity of the risk, even if not in and of itself a practical measure of said risk.

there was no achievement, there was no escape from oppression, there was nothing relatable to your average human… just throwing away ones life with an immense risk that had minuscule reward. They rolled the dice annd bet their lives in exchange for…. what upside?

dying in pursuit of summiting a mountain at least has some tangible human conquering nature narrative that stirs people and its dying in a quest. This is billionaires that could buy anything and that they chose THIS I think has really caught most people in a different way.

Not the titanic as a backdrop.

Not some faux sense of bravery.

just sheer unreasonable and unrelatable decision making from folks that are thought to be in a position of excellence. And that’s a story the masses can be dumbstruck by for a couple days

Some people yearn for something more than the mundane.

I can’t make you understand that if you don’t want to.

I feel bad for the kid, tbh.  How could you take your 19 year old along on something like this?  It’s crazy for me to even fathom knowing that his father was aware of the risks.  Jeezzz…

I had the same thought.  I get the older guys risking their lives - at least one of them was an adventurer who was presumably used to assuming a certain level of risk. I wonder if the kid was already on a similar path or if this was more of a one-off or first time adventure that his dad was able to bankroll and if so if they really understood the risk involved.

If the CEO was willing to fire people for pointing out safety issues he’s probably willing to conceal the risk from his clients.

Sounds like we knew they were dead right after it happened.

……

In regards to those talking about risk .. Yea, it’s risky, but it wasn’t a maiden voyage.  It’s been done, quite a bit.

Saw an interview with a guy who went on one of these and he talked about going out on the boat waiting his turn and everyday the sub went down .. everyday the sub came back up.  He was nervous, but when that happened multiple days in a row, he just kind of forgot about the fact he could actually die if anything goes wrong.

I can come up with a near infinite list of thrilling items that surpass “sit in a tiny can with strangers to see some debris”

the 19 year old conquered nothing, showed no acumen, made no human connection, achieved nothing… a gondola to the top of a ski slope is more exciting than hopping in this sketchy sub.

And that’s why people are so amazed by this. Not because they think these men were on some uniquely intriguing adventure into the unknown. They were chasing fake accomplishments at a cost we cannot fathom that turned into the ultimate price - a cost we very much understand.

You’re projecting.

People were fascinated due to the unimaginable torture and terror we thought they were going through.

A race against time .. in real time .. that we thought was happening.

If we knew what our govt apparently knew on Sunday .. this story doesn’t become so gripping to almost everyone.

It would be a headline for a day .. then out of the news a day or two later.

…because most people understand why others, with the means to do it, would want to go see the Titanic.

And we know things can go wrong.

We haven’t ever encountered the mind numbing terror of the situation we thought we were witnessing.

The terror of being stuck certainly contributed to the story. But we will remember this for years to come even knowing those horror movie scenes were not real. They will forever be the billionaires with more money than sense and that also appeals greatly to the public interest.

The only certainties? That the backdrop of the titanic didn’t spark the immense interest. That their bravery to be adventurers wasn’t the immense interest.

rich men do incredibly dumb thing and maybe find themselves in a live action disaster porn? Binge watching.

Report is... The kid was terrified, but went to bond with his father.

A billion dolla inheritance will definitely make people do screwy things!

SUPPOSEDLY the US Navy picked up the acoustics right after the sub went missing.

Wow... That's scary. How does the Navy hear that? Betcha Kim Kardashian is freaking out that they can hear her fart! 😆

Explorers are doing something of merit. These people were tourists hoping to catch a glimpse of a mass graveyard.  If they were using the craft for scientific discovery that's one thing and to die in that way is valorous. To die and kill other people while charging $250,000 a ticket isn't "exploration"

Also,

Dear Terry,

No submersibles or rocket ships.

Thanks.

It’s already starting.  I just read some kook’s Twitter post about how they believe these billionaires set up this elaborate “stunt” in order to fake their deaths.  The wing nuts are eating it up.  🤦🏾
