Bills sign a CB, release a CB (now the title is grammatically correct)

He gave up 78% completions, 9.9 YPC, 111 QBR last year.

Positives he missed 3 tackles.

2021 54%, 8.7, 74.7 QBR

2020 63%, 11.7, 92.8 QBR

Low missed tackles every year. Pretty inconsistent year to year coverage wise.

2022 version doesn’t make this team, but 2021 version could start.

His size, strengths, weaknesses, and combine measurements have safety written all over them.

Please let him be competition for Lewis, that guy is lost even when he is doing his assignment. There has rarely been a player that I notice over and over again at being horrible. It jumps off the screen at how bad at football he is.

Agree. Unless he's doing quiet things away from the ball that keeps the QB from throwing his direction. Every time he appears onscreen, he's blowing the coverage. Just good enough to make it close, but I don't recall any wins from him. And yet, they keep bringing him back.

He made the single most stupid and costly play of the whole season against the Vikings by going for a pick on 4th and forever on a ball that, if not for him suspending it in the air, Jefferson had no chance at catching. That situationally oblivious play cost them a bye in the playoffs. He should have been cut that day.

He's a PS level, former UDFA, who has lasted 4 years in the league and started 4 times inbetween bouncing on and off the active roster. When a guy like that starts you are not in trouble because that guy starts so much as you are in trouble because of who is not starting. The Bills never put him out there through pure choice. It was always injury related.

I was just going to post the question if this guy could project to Safety in the future.....gotta start preparing for the eventual decline of Poyer/Hyde in a few years.

Good fit for what they do. Interesting depth add. I remember there was someone in that college program connected to McDermott.

When they passed on him in that 3rd round in favour of Moss my immediate thought was length, because as you say there were lots of dots to connect the Bills to him and his style of play is a fit. But for a guy 6ft2 he has short arms - sub 31". We know how much the Bills value arm length as a trait in their corners. Later that night however Beane gushed about Zack Moss and said he had to sit on his hands to avoid trading UP to pick him (imagine how 🤢 that would have been). So maybe that was not a significant factor, and interesting that they have brought him in. Do we know what he signed for in Washington? Odd that all he could get on the open market is bare vet minimum and if the Commanders gave him more than that then why did they cut him so quickly?

Yeah. I don't know if that's what this is. They upgraded CB7 by swapping McMichael for Dantzler - now he's competing for a chance at the 53 man roster.

Camreon Dantzler is competing with Siran Neal, Cam Lewis, Alex Austin and Ja'Marcus Ingram. He's not competing with Kaiir Elam.

STARTERS

Tre White

Kaiir Elam

Taron Johnson

BACKUPS

Christian Benford

Dane Jackson

Everyone is competing with everyone at CB.  I don't think you can even say that Tre White is a lock to be starting, if he is still playing like he did at the end of last season.  (hopefully he is close to his old form this year)  The best guys should make the final roster and see the field at every position.  It should not matter where they are drafted.

Maybe their 1st round pick CB Forbes may have a little to do with cutting him?

Started his career well and then fell off a cliff.  Had some injury issues as well as an unspecified personal issue which caused him to miss time with the Vikes.  Once upon a time, they were excited about him in Minnesota.  But he fell from CB1 to CB6 and was eventually waived.  The Commanders then recently gave him a look but cut him after just two months.

It's not a good career trajectory.  Hopefully, he can reverse things with us though I'm not sure I'm optimistic.

Former high pick with a chip... Zone guy in a zone defense. I bet he sticks as depth, and has a solid season in rotation. I like this signing.

McD knows DB's and seems to get the most out of these types of guys. +1

Agree with this. He looks good on Zone and is tall and long. Fits Mcds system… hope he sticks as #4 CB and then we love Benford to Safety. Benford can be a very good safety in the league.
