PatsFanNH Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 I didn’t see this posted, but with Rogers from Indianapolis now being under investigation for hundreds of wagers with numerous ones on the colts and the suspension of a group of Lions players for gambling on games and Ridley for a year.. Why are they being so dumb? Isn’t it obvious to everyone that if you gamble on the game you destroy the integrity of said game? 1 2 Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 It’s really just small scale gambling. Some players are stupid. 1 Quote

Logic Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 The NFL is walking a funny, fine little line right now. On the one hand, getting fully into bed with legal sports betting, promoting it three times per commercial break, adding handheld betting machines to stadium seatbacks, etc....all while telling players "gambling is bad!". And I'm not talking about gambling on other NFL games. If I understand it correctly, the NFL will discipline players for gambling any amount, on any sport. Ridiculous. 1 5 1 1 Quote

When Marshawn Lynch was drafted he didn't know Buffalo wasn't part of NY City.... for every player who goes on to be a doctor there's a player who is excellent at football and not much else. Add in that gambling ads are everywhere, gambling has never been easier to do, and that players are human, and the league is bound to have players placing bets. 1 Quote
teef Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 it think there's strange rules to it too. you can bet on non-nfl sports, but not while at an nfl facility. maybe they just need an all or nothing policy. 1 Quote

MJS Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Just out of curiosity, why would you post that here and not on a Pats forum? I'm actually curious. Why spend time here instead of on the message boards of your team? I'm not saying you shouldn't post here, mind you. You are welcome to. 1 Quote
Irv Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 I'm sure it went on as much or more before. Too many ways to get caught now. Quote

I'm pretty sure the players got through informational meetings about what is and isn't allowed within the facility. 1 Quote

I'm sure they do, and they pay attention to that like they do the gun policy and domestic beatings policy. 3 Quote

It’s not like the majority of football players are Rhodes scholars, and they certainly aren’t smart enough to not try to kill the golden goose…, This was all to predictable, the NFL owners own the gambling houses, they are the ones who introduced gambling on the games, it will only get worse. 1 Quote

Royale with Cheese Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 I think it's easy to say they're stupid, the act is of course but there are reasonably intelligent people who make stupid mistakes for different motivations. Especially when it comes to gambling. When I was 25, I was bartending and had a great night in tips. I just wanted to go home and sleep but got talked into going to the casino. I lost everything I made that night and more. I had to work multiple double shifts in a row to get money back. So yeah, the smart thing to do is to just stay away and not be dumb. It shouldn't shock anyone that a 25 year old did something stupid. 2 Quote
