He asked for certain things in the contract, and they got that worked out. The problem is DH thinks his value is OBJ contract or better. BB has made his best offer (or at least he says) and it's now up to DH. I asked about other teams offer said he said he has no idea. He doubts BB will move on his offer very much if at all. Let's give you the benefit and assume this is accurate... Could it be that we've offered 2 years, 21 million with incentives up to 30 million? That would go along with Ian R mentioning he thinks Hop will get around 10+ mil base and incentives, but won't reach OBJ contract (at least in 1 year) Quote

We haven't done anything major to improve while Miami and the Jets seem to be making progress getting better. We have to do whatever it takes to land this guy and then we are all but guaranteed a Super Bowl, otherwise its business as usual. What say the rest of you? Careful. There’s plenty of people here that think Harty, Sherfield, and Harris/McMurray will be huge contributors. I can see one of the 4 panning out and being used regularly, while the other 3 play special teams and come in and make substitutions a few times a game but never really touch the ball. 1 1 Quote

Nobody thinks they'll be huge contributors. Reasonable people think they can improve on Mckenzie and Kumerow, while the RBs run through a fortified interior OL. And we won 14 football games last season, out of 18. The Jets finished SIX games behind us. They better hope that they progress a bit!! 1 Quote

But they don't seem to consider it's not black and white. For instance if the Pats* put out an offer $1M more than the Bills, it probably isn't cut and dry - especially if the competing offer contains incentive clauses. It's just how close does our offer have to be for him to take ours over the competition. I think part of the hold up is, if true, that no one has offered up OBJ money. I think DHop has a legitimate gripe, I think DHop is more valuable than OBJ. It may be that Dhop was late to the signing party, and may not get what he wants…, happens that way to someone every off season. 1 1 Quote

Max Fischer Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 18 hours ago, Rigotz said: I posted this in another thread with a longer explanation… but if Hopkins signs, there is absolutely no need for Gabe and we can get a premium pick for him NOW. We will run heavy 2TE sets this year, correct? If so, Hopkins and Diggs go on the outside, with Harty and Shakir competing in the slot (and Kincaid). That leaves Shorter and Sherfield as deep ball specialists… kinda like Gabe, but they also are great at Special Teams. You don’t keep 7WR in a 2TE system when you can get a premium asset for one who will see only a few snaps per game. What do you think the Bills will get for a #2/#3 receiver on the last year of a rookie contract? 4th or 5th rounder? That's hardly worth it. What benefit would the Bills get out of a trade when they could have a receiver who did VERY well as a #3 and could easily slip into #2 if Diggs or Hopkins? Davis is a proven #3, while the others are not. Quote

According to some of the leaks it's looking that way. Seems like the league isn't valuing DHop as much as I do. I rate DHop much higher than OBJ. I didn't think DHop's AZ contract was outrageous. $19M seemed worth it to me (cash not cap hit). That's C Godwin, A Cooper, K Allen type money. 1 1 Quote
