Once again, if he's so great in the playoffs.....why are we trading him away?  If Diggs, Hopkins and Kincaid are all on the field in the AFC Championship and so is Gabe Davis.....Gabe could have a massive game

He was great in the playoffs one season.    Trade off of that when you can get some value, not when you have to and get none, ask Arizona..

You said it. It’s a contract year. He wants targets.

Then he can earn them.  I'll take Gabe Davis as my WR3 over almost any other WR3 I can think of. Especially if two WR1's are each drawing the attention of multiple defenders

....we signed RT Brandon Shell

Brandon Shell isn't starting, unless Spencer goes down.

He's a solid backup, likely competing with Quess and then Doyle once he returns later in the year.

Exactly!!!!!  Brandon Shell is a good backup competing with Quess, but that's it.

Problem is nobody is available and everyone is about this year only.  The scenario exists that we save the cap and do this next year...

Shell is a capable starter who only gave up 2 sacks in 450+ pass blocking snaps last season.....

I posted this in another thread with a longer explanation… but if Hopkins signs, there is absolutely no need for Gabe and we can get a premium pick for him NOW.

We will run heavy 2TE sets this year, correct? If so, Hopkins and Diggs go on the outside, with Harty and Shakir competing in the slot (and Kincaid). That leaves Shorter and Sherfield as deep ball specialists… kinda like Gabe, but they also are great at Special Teams. You don’t keep 7WR in a 2TE system when you can get a premium asset for one who will see only a few snaps per game.

Disagree....there definitely would be a need for Gabe incase of injury and etc.

As I said if it happens it won't be til next year imo

Looking at stats only is helpful, but not telling the entire story.

I like the signing but realistically he was forced into action for Miami LY, because of their tackle injuries.

He's a Quess 2.0, which isn't bad.  But he's better at pass pro, not better than Spencer.

This doesn't move the needle improving OL, unless you Sherfield moves the needle improving WR2...basically same backup types.

I wonder if we hear something at 4pm

What's special about 4pm? I doubt we hear anything today anyway. If Hopkins hired an agent, then it will probably take him some time to work out the best deal for his client.

But we sure did have a strong showing on the IR list! Might these be related? Hmmmmm…..we might be on to something!

Stop confusing attack dogs with facts.  They are anti-shot ones who do not want rabies short for they like the foaming at the mouth.

Keeping Gabe would mean we don’t have a prolonged drop off should something happen to Diggs or DHop that lingers. Some of the new guys might be great, but I don’t want to NEED them to step up. There’s a lot at stake. If we don’t get DHop, as I’ve come to expect, then we just roll with what we’ve got and hope for the best.

I definitely understand your position on that, and ideally they would keep Davis.  The issue is just the math of the situation...they are not going to keep 8 WR's and we don't know if they would even keep 7.  Especially with Kincaid being essentially a big slot WR in their offensive plans, makes having to keep more WR's less a priority because they might want to keep an extra TE that is better suited for blocking.

Diggs, Hopkins, Davis, Sherfield, Harty, Shakir is already 6 guys...plus they have UDFA they signed for 3 years and Shorter who they like.  So I think if we sign Hopkins, then the staff could be looking at a Davis vs Sherfield battle to see who wins a roster spot.  And between those 2, Davis has more trade value and they could move him for a trade asset potentially and let Sherfield run as the WR3.

Personally, I think Sherfield has some pretty good potential and could be better than some realize.  So far he has been getting rave reviews from the staff and especially Josh Allen who seems to have taken a big liking to him and referenced no one is putting more work in than him.  He was the biggest beneficiary of Diggs absence and got a lot of time with Allen and they seem to have clicked.

Harty and Shakir have different roles, and unless either of them struggle during camp and preseason, they have a pretty clear path to the roster.  Harty is a deep threat like no other on the team who can take the top off and Shakir is set up to be our main slot WR (likely sharing time there with Kincaid).  And Shorter and the other UDFA kid they signed for 3 years are special team guys too, so at least one of them should make the roster.

So if we sign Hopkins, there is a numbers game and could be hard to keep both Davis and Sherfield, so it could come down to them battling it out for WR3 but also what value Beane could get for either of them in a trade.  Injuries or other guys having bad camps could easily change that of course.

Im pretty sure he’s contractually an Arizona Cardinal until then, no?

Not sure if it’s of any significance, but even if he had a FA deal in place, I doubt he can announce it if Arizona still has the ability to trade him.

It's legit competition.  Read the comments in the Shell thread on the video posted.

Hawks fans called him a stud, diamond in the rough etc. He was mind up that game and apparently got a bad injury but he seems like some reasonable competition for Brown considering the cap

How would it be next year when he’s an unrestricted free agent after this season…

He’ll top out at about 80 targets as WR3, and that’s his ceiling . He’d never top Diggs and Hopkins unless injury. If he goes somewhere as a WR2 or maybe even a WR1 he’s over 100 targets.

We’ll see how it plays out if it does. He could still have a nice 55-60 catch 6+ TD season as a WR3 here.

I should have clarified a bit more....I was meaning more in the lines of "parting ways" with Gabe it would be next year and not now. Not necessarily trade

Yes. If we're having the season we hope we do and he is a big contributor, there is zero chance he is dealt mid year

He's bounced between 3 teams in 3 seasons, signed by Miami last September because of all their injuries.

Likley a similar 1 year deal to Quess ($1.6m).  He's sitting there on May 29th for a reason.

Again, I like the signing.  But it's depth and if he has to play meaningful snaps, then that means Spencer played horrible.

My point is let's not act like we just upgraded the RT position, best chance of that happening is Spencer playing his A game.

Has Hopkins actually been released yet? Can't sign a guy who is still under contract. Announcing he will be released isn't the same as releasing him.
