The Wiz Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) AZ ate his cap hit. They played chicken and lost. He's getting paid already so he will play where he wants to play. Edited May 26, 2023 by The Wiz 2 2 5 Quote
Westside Madness Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 I am hearing that because they cut him now, they eat a cap hit of 22m. Apparently if they cut him after 01-Jun, they would not have. So, if that is true, why wouldn't they wait a week to cut him? 2 Quote

khlax3 Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Bills can free up 7 million by extending Daquan jones and cutting siran Neal. That is more than enough to sign Hopkins with a 1st year cap hit. with shorter on the team now who can play special teams and the league de-emphasizing special teams no reason to keep Neal when you already have other special teams only guys 4 3 Quote

Big Blitz Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) He’s going to end up in Kansas City - and we’ll say “it’s fine we can’t keep kicking the cap down the road” or “Beane is smart not to break cap.” It will be against his better instincts to sign him - but here’s the problem. Your over 28 year old leaders and stars want to win NOW. Having to break the bank or go against your cap judgement is warranted here because you could deflate that locker room. And they were deflated against Cincinnati because they knew they didn’t have the horses (too many injuries) to win. Edited May 26, 2023 by Big Blitz 1 3 Quote

Ok, so based on your comment, they were eating it either way, this year or next. That makes sense. My knowledge of cap/contracts is limited. Thanks! 1 Quote

Because they know they are going to suck this year might as well just take the loss this year instead of splitting it into next year once Murray is back 1 1 Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) Bills only needed to create space now for a trade. They can sign him as a free agent and structure it anyway they want now and worry about creating cap later. Edited May 26, 2023 by Buffalo_Stampede 4 Quote

They are also in win now mode and having Rodgers as the QB makes them a decent option. 1 Quote

If they know this is a done deal in UFA they will wait. If there is any worry, make the trade and restructure before official. Quote
