The #2 corners in this division and the need for an elite number 2 WR should give pause to folks like me that want to hope for a Gabe Davis breakout.

I love Davis.  But this is a HOF WR we’d bring in.  And Davis will still have a big role imo.  Hopkins and Diggs won’t need to play over 60-70 percent of snaps.

Davis would become what the Bills call WR4. Right now that is supposed to be Harty's role but Davis has been more consistent than Harty. WR4 in the Bills offense is the primary backup/rotational outside WR who also plays some in the slot. Davis was excellent in that role in 2020 and 2021. He is at his best when defenses aren't paying close attention to him because they have too many other weapons to worry about. He had a number of deep catches on blown coverages in 2020 and it's easier to make some of the contested catches he made that year when he's matched up against the 3rd CB on the opponent's depth chart.

Right, and that was 2020/2021 when Davis was developing.  He's a capable Wr2, who got extra attention LY because of a perfect storm of poor OL play (Knox having to chip), no reliable slot option, and battling thru his high ankle sprain.

We will soon see what Beane decides to do.

This decision should rest on one thing and one thing only: we have been waiting for a QB like Josh since Jim Kelly - whose career are you more concerned with supporting, Josh or Gabe? Dhop helps Josh now more than Gabe. Gabe isn't a #1 receiver. You take Dhop in a SB window every time.

and with that overly simplistic mindset, Beane should have spent all this "potential dhop $" on improving RT, LG, and RG in FA.

instead he upgraded our guards, and found supporting options.  This is a better team already, on paper, than LY.  It's not supporting Gabe vs Josh, it's understanding this isn't the last year of the NFL and Beane is wisely considering future salary cap impications/roster build.

He got extra attention because he was the 2nd option in our offense... and he simply didn't meet the moment.

Exactly. Just look at 9 drops on under 100 targets just last year. Hopkins has less in over 300 targets the past 3 years combined.

With what cap space?

They can structure a deal with under $5m in cap hit. Restructured deals can easily get there. Hines is overpaid at $3.5m. Add in guys like mata, Neal, not all the OL will make the team etc.

I would definitely not be against this if we could make it work

Is trading Ed Oliver still a possibility not to get D’Andre that he is a free agent, but to free up the space

Anything is possible.
