Dianne Feinstein A Berkeley IGS poll is showing some surprising strength for the Republican candidate running for California Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein’s seat. If offered a head-to-head matchup between attorney Eric Early and the currently declared candidates: Rep. Katie Porter (D-Orange County), Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank), and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland), Early comes out on top. Newsom is salivating like a rabid dog to appoint another Senator, with the guarantee that once incumbency is established, it’s pretty much inevitable that they will never be voted out (he’s not wrong). B-Man Posted May 31, 2023 Author Posted May 31, 2023 https://www.post-gazette.com/opinion/insight/2023/05/28/chris-deluzio-jim-nelson-2024-election/stories/202305280050 SALENA ZITO: The first GOP candidate in the swing 17th district is a Black pastor from Penn Hills. Mr. Nelson’s decision to run comes at a time when Democrats — who often bank their ability to win on non-white voters — have seen a small but not insignificant number of minority voters turned off by the party’s apparent slide toward elitism. Our interview came in the same week Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, the only Black Republican in the U.S. Senate, launched his presidential campaign and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who is seeking to become the state’s first Black governor, crushed all of his well-funded GOP primary opponents. Both Mr. Scott and Mr. Cameron have faced racial remarks from some media, and some Democrats, that would in other contexts be considered terribly racist. “In other contexts. . . .” 😡 1
B-Man Posted May 31, 2023 Author Posted May 31, 2023 Yikes: Manchin Absolutely Tanking in New West Virginia Poll Guy Benson One of the last remaining moderate Democrats in Congress burnished his independent credentials back home in his deep red state in late 2021, swooping in to (almost single-handedly) kill the Biden agenda. But months later, that same Democrat shocked DC by unveiling a surprise deal cut behind closed doors with Chuck Schumer, resurrecting key elements of that same agenda. The result was the so-called 'Inflation Reduction Act,' and its bloating Green New Deal spending and historic expansion and empowerment of the Internal Revenue Service. Upon further review, the folks back home were not impressed. The ostensibly moderate and independent Democrat didn't seem so moderate or independent anymore, handing his party an unexpected legislative gift in the run-up to key election. Public opinion instantly soured. And the politician in question, West Virginia Senator Joe Minchin, has been backpedaling ever since. He's even threatened to try to repeal his own bill, citing 'betrayals' from his party, which everyone saw coming. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2023/05/31/yikes-manchin-absolutely-tanking-in-new-west-virginia-poll-n2623847 1

Tiberius Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 https://www.axios.com/2023/06/08/ruling-boosts-dems-odds-house-takeover-2024 The Supreme Court's surprise ruling that Alabama Republicans violated Black voters' rights in drawing up congressional districts could change maps in several key states — and boost Democrats' odds of taking control of the U.S. House next year. Why it matters: It won't take much to upend Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-Calif) 10-seat majority. Thursday's ruling likely will add a blue seat in Alabama, and could add more in Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Texas. That could go a long way toward offsetting potential GOP gains in North Carolina and Ohio. Driving the news: The high court ruled that the GOP's congressional map in Alabama — where the population is 27% Black — violated the Voting Rights Act by slicing up majority-Black areas so that only one of the state's seven districts (or 14%) had a majority of Black residents. Democrats could pick up one seat with a revised Alabama map — and other southern states with similar legal fights, including Louisiana and Georgia, also could be forced to draw new maps that net the party additional seats. "This could reverberate to LA, SC and/or GA, forcing creation of 2-4 new Black majority districts and netting Dems 2-4 seats," Cook Political Report's David Wasserman tweeted. The ruling also could help Democrats flip seats in Texas in 2024, said Marina Jenkins, executive director of the National Democratic Redistricting Commission.

B-Man Posted July 13, 2023 Author Posted July 13, 2023 Rematch in Texas: Mayra Flores is running again to flip a seat in South Texas KAREN TOWNSEND Former Congresswoman Mayra Flores is ready to run again. She flipped a South Texas seat from a 100 year dominance by Democrats to Republican in 2022. She was the first Mexican-born congresswoman. Flores is running again for the seat she lost in November. She made history in June 2022 by winning a special election in Texas’ 34th Congressional District seated in Brownsville. Republicans have set their sites on flipping South Texas from blue to red and her victory was a huge boost for Republicans. She ran for a full term last November and lost to U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez by 8.5 percentage points. The McAllen Democrat ran in the 34th congressional district after the 2021 redistricting cycle. Last November Republicans ran Flores and two other Republican women in districts that were targeted to be flipped. Only one won, though, and Flores lost her race. Flores is ready to rumble. No doubt she learned some valuable lessons during her last campaign, as Gonzalez ran a particularly nasty campaign against her. https://hotair.com/karen-townsend/2023/07/13/rematch-in-texas-mayra-flores-is-running-again-to-flip-a-seat-in-south-texas-n564283 1

B-Man Posted August 30, 2023 Author Posted August 30, 2023 Not 2024, but this fall. On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the people of Kentucky will go the the polls to vote for governor. Incumbent Democratic Governor Andy Beshear is running for reelection against his Republican challenger, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron. For the better part of the summer, Beshear – touted as one of “America’s 5 most popular governors” – has maintained a steady range – between 4 to 10 points – in his lead over Cameron. But it might not be all moonlight and roses for the popular governor coming into the home stretch. Cameron has a pretty solid record of his own that he’s running on, which has come into open conflict with Beshear’s big blue policies several times. There’s also a well of simmering resentment over Beshear’s handling of the COVID lockdowns. He may have led the state to a “strong recovery,” but how he led through the pandemic itself is a sore point to this day with many residents, and they are quick to remind people of it. Beshear also vetoed the Kentucky legislature’s anti-gender affirming care for minors bill, saying it would “increase suicides” and allow “excessive government interference in personal health decisions.” He expressed no concern about saving children from irreparable harm or sparing them irreversible surgeries for a lifetime of pain and suffering. Fortunately, huge majorities in both houses of the legislature allowed Kentucky lawmakers to override that veto. This is part of the “culture warrior” shadow the media is trying to cast on Cameron and make him scary to swing voters, along with “right-wing, school choice billionaires” financing him and the Trump endorsement. All the boogiemen of classic Democratic demagoguery. I don’t think it’s going to stick and it’s certainly not going to stop Cameron. He’s unafraid to be seen in public and speak to his beliefs with like-minded souls. https://hotair.com/tree-hugging-sister/2023/08/30/just-how-blue-will-the-grass-in-ky-be-on-election-day-n574693

B-Man Posted September 6, 2023 Author Posted September 6, 2023 Former Rep. Mike Rogers Enters Michigan Senate Race as the First Prominent Republican US News ^ | 9/6/23 Republican Mike Rogers, who served in Congress for 14 years and chaired the House Intelligence Committee, is running for an open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan that Democrats have held for over two decades. The announcement, which was provided to The Associated Press in a campaign video on Wednesday, instantly shakes up a Senate race that had been relatively quiet and dominated by Democratic candidates. It's seen as a recruiting victory for Michigan Republicans, who have struggled to win statewide races with a state party in turmoil. A former Marine and FBI agent, Rogers was elected to Congress in 2000 and served seven terms in the House, the last two as chair of the committee that oversees U.S. intelligence agencies. He left office in 2015 and served briefly on Trump’s transition team as an adviser on national security issues.
