NoSaint Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Bring him in come March. It’ll barely be a story. other signings would dwarf it. You get a couple random comments during OTAs and then it’s old news before the season. Quote
davefan66 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Honestly, do fans really care any longer? If he was brought in, tell fans charges have been dropped and “all good”. Will it happen? Based on the teams past reaction to non-culture employees, it has shown they don’t tolerate these types of issues. Most recent John Roth and Kathryn D’Angelo for “unethical circumstances” and most famously Russ Brandon. Based on these reactions, don’t believe he will be brought back. Quote

Assuming at this point that Araiza was falsely accused as it now appears to be the case, it's time for him to have his NFL opportunity. Quote

Sierra Foothills Posted June 15 Posted June 15 https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/matt-araiza-appears-to-win-chiefs-punting-job "Matt Araiza, the strong-legged punter whose career was derailed by a sexual assault accusation, appears poised to win the Chiefs’ punting job for the 2024 season. The Chiefs cut punter Ryan Rehkow, which leaves Araiza as the only punter on their roster. It’s still possible that the Chiefs could bring in another punter to compete with Araiza, but it looks like Araiza is going to be the Chiefs’ punter when the regular season starts. Araiza won the Bills’ punting job as a rookie in 2022, but when news surfaced that he had been accused in a lawsuit of gang rape while he was in college, the Bills cut him and he was out of the NFL for more than a year. Araiza was never criminally charged, and the accuser later dropped her lawsuit. At San Diego State, Araiza was widely regarded as the best punter in college football, winning the Ray Guy Award and setting a new NCAA record by averaging 51.2 yards per punt. Araiza also handled kickoffs and field goals in college. With the off-field issue that ended his tenure in Buffalo behind him, Araiza now has an opportunity to show what he can do in the NFL. If he’s as good as he was in college, he should be one of the best punters in football this season." 2 3 1 3 4 1 Quote

muppy Posted June 15 Posted June 15 this is BIG for him and he earned it. Congrats. But the freaking Chiefs? blech. Now we get to watch what would a could a shoulda been if he'd have been retained that's my regret. A strong legged kicker is an advantage in Buffalo. Which is why he was drafted in the first place. horrible HORRIBLE situation for he to have had go through AND the Bills too. #bittersweet 4 Quote

Augie Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Life can be tricky and unpredictable. Things happen and we make the best decisions we can in the moment. Nobody wins here, but I’m glad this young man is getting his shot, even if it’s with the Chiefs. I can’t fault the Bills organization for how they handled the situation. They had an entire team to get ready for a season. 1 2 1 Quote
Doc Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Rehkow was an UDFA this year. He must have really sucked if they cut him already. Usually teams like to have 2 punters going into training camp and pre-season. Quote

But this was clearly a culture nice guy move that could be a missing puzzle piece to a championship 2 1 1 1 Quote

I was roasted for that take. 5 Quote
