DCofNC Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 So many great choices available, Payton, Faulk, Thuman, LT, Sayers, etc. even McCaffrey, Eckler, etc today would be nice. I think I’d go with Adrian Peterson, just slightly over LT, only because he was gone the minute he got past the second level, he still had awesome power, good enough hands and could absolutely carry a team. He was one of the all time great talents, too bad injuries and stupidity cost him thousands of yards or he probably goes down as the all time leader. Quote

They’d rather have a non murderer in the backfield. personally, I’d take him. He looked to be as special as special can be. Wish I would’ve been able to watch him live and remember. other than him- I’ll take Adrian Peterson or Earl Campbell. I love the violence in their running style. Yeah, all that. Quote

I remember watching games where he'd gain maybe 140 yards - a good day for any other back but pedestrian for him. But there'd be two plays where he made some tremendous juke - or broke some tackle - and nearly broke a long one except for a desperate shoestring tackle. And then there was a long run called back because of a penalty. And another because he stepped out of bounds. The 140 yards were nearly 200, maybe even 300 yards. He was a threat to go the distance on every play. But the idea that maybe he wouldn't be the best fit for this offense has some validity. I don't remember OJ being selfish, but you have to wonder how happy and productive he'd be playing in Dorsey's pass-first offense. OJ did like being the center of attention. And he seemed to be the kind of runner who did his best work when he got into a rhythm. And while I remember OJ being a good receiver out of the backfield, contrary to what some others may say, he was not a great pass-blocker. And, in this O, backs need to block. OJ's biggest weakness was fumbling -- he was a fumbling machine. He had 62 fumbles on 2,607 touches. By way of comparison, Frank Gore had 46 fumbles on 4,219 touches. Emmit Smith had 61 fumbles on 4,924 touches. Marshall Faulk had 36 fumbles on 3,503 touches. As you may know, McDermott is highly allergic to fumblers. Quote

Best Player Available Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 21 hours ago, ColoradoBills said: He did. If Ralph would of gave him that big 4-year $200k contract he wanted, I think the Bills could have won the 1st Super Bowl. He also was quite the character and entrepreneur. At one time or another Gilchrist had sought to invest in a sporting goods store called “Cookie’s Closet, become a public relations specialist and a mining prospector in northern Ontario. He was so excited about the latter that he hired an Indian guide, rented a helicopter and flew over the lake where a large body of copper ore was discovered, dropped on pontoons into the water and staked his claim. He also tried to get Bills owner, Ralph Wilson to invest in 20,000 pairs of autographed Cookie Gilchrist earmuffs to sell at the 1964 AFL championship game. Wilson declined the offer. It was also reported that Cookie sold Christmas trees outside of the Bills War Memorial Stadium. Cookie sold Christmas trees at the Airport Plaza. Right next to Cavages record store. 1 1 Quote
Charles Romes Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Lynch was most talented running back ever. A bad landing spot on entering the league limited what he was able to achieve. He could run inside power amongst the best and also outside. He also had the softest hands and would have been Faulk in the passing game if used properly. Quote
LanderPoke Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Peyton Hillis. jk Marshall Faulk or Barry Sanders Quote
Toomstone.Part.Duex Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 I'd say Thurman. He's my fav Bill of all time. I don't discuss the other team he played for. That never happened! hahaha Thurm, Bo, If I had to pick someone playing today. Barkley. Quote
BigDingus Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Marshall Faulk or LT. Both great pass catching backs, both can eek out that tough yardage on short downs, and both could pass protect. If I had to pick a Bills player, Thurman would be the obvious choice to me, even over OJ. Quote
frostbitmic Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Walter Payton - He wouldn't just run around you or make you miss, he'd run you over too. Today's player, I think I would have to go with McCaffrey. Quote
Udubalum07 Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Barry would be great from a straight running perspective, but for the team, I would go for more a total package running back. So, a healthy Christian McCaffrey or Marshall Faulk would be my picks. Quote
Mynamemike Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 I’d like to see Jerome Bettis in todays game in a modern weight training program and diet. Quote
TBBills Fan Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Thurman was my favorite player growing up and possibly the best all around back ever....id love to see him in this offense Faulk and LT would be my other 2 choices... Quote
